The sun shines down from the deep blue sky. i squint my eyes at the sun and sigh. i should have worn my sunglasses. damn false weather report. i pass by some posters to a rock concert for a band called Revenge Ink. it had a huge picture of a tribal tattoo of the female singer. i keep passing them by and find the door to the publishers building. i open it and enter the elevator.
"Mr Brady. Your editor is looking for you." a Secretary in the lobby said as I walked in.
"Let me guess 9th floor. Overjoyed." I sigh and the doors closed. I rub the back of my neck as the numbers ticked by. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Each one seemingly slower than the last. 6. 7. 8. 9. Finally. I step out of the elevator and into the lobby. I show the woman at the front desk my ID and walk down the hall into my editors office.
"You needed to speak to me Becky?" i look up at her and she sits her her desk and looks at me from above her glasses. her brown hair in a messy bun. strands of brown hair hang down in her face.
"Ej."she takes off her glasses and looks up at me.
"Yes?" i sit down and lean forward.
"you're over your deadline. you havent slept. have you?" i shook my head. she sighed.
"i want you to finish your chapter and hand it in and then take some time off. hell why not just hand me what you have so far and then go home. hell i heard there is a band playing and i know how much you like your punk rock music. i'll give you ticket and you go and have fun." she said. i nod and rub my face. i email her the unfinished chapter and she hands me a ticket. it had the same design as the posters outside. tribal tattoo of a woman.
"Revenge Ink?" i say looking up at becky and grab the ticket from her veiny hands.
"you've heard of them?" she asked.
"barely." i stand up and put the ticket away in my coat pocket. "just posters" i comment. she nods and shoos me out of her office. i nod and leave.
i go back to the ground floor and walk to the parking ramp and get into my 2015 black SAAB. i start it up and go home.
