chapter three

I nervously swam up to where the blonde and "I'm not the only one" were and turned my face up to the Council. "Now I know that you're aware that this isn't like the Test is normally given, but you are not your average Mèrrs now are you?" said the Council member with the tight bun. She looked at my tail, but not just mine. Theirs too.

What?!

If I didn't know any better the blonde's tail was light blue while "I'm not the only one's" was a bright red. Those were standard tail colors. "Take these" said and old Mèrr, a Council member holding out a towel dripping with a silvery substance. It must've been some strong stuff since it was dripping underwater. An old man of a Council member held out two one for each of the girls with the standard tails.

He asked for them to wipe their tails with it, so they did. As they did the red and blue was coming off their tails, showing off the shimmering gold color of their tails.

 Gold.

Oh gods of Atlantis, I wasn't the only one! Now I kind of get where the brunnete was coming from.

 They must've dyed their tails. My train of thought was cut short by a female voice  "As you can see, you all have one thing in common" it was a blonde Mèrr, way over her 50th earth turn "Now that we have that settled, I will have all three of you follow me"

~~~~~~~
I was freaking out. They were going to kill us weren't they.
"We're not" said the blonde Council member. Before I could ask she answered " That is my gift, I can read minds. But only if I focus." Wow. Hardly any of us Mèrr had gifts. We were usually stuck with very normal jobs, but every once in a while, someone is born with a gift. Most of them are offered a place in the Council though others meet a worse fate.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
"Come right in" said the Council member. Inside was a giant wall with a beautiful seashell mosaic. It had three mermaids, all with gold tails. It looked as if it was trying to tell a story. "It is." said the Council member "The profecy states that, on the night of a blue moon, three Mèrrs were born, all with gold tails. One mother died at birth, another lived but couldn't tell the story as she could not speak and the last could not listen to it as she did not hear. On the day of their 18th turn, they will be sent to land to see what others can't, to hear what others can't and to live what others will never. These three will defeat the great evil that threatens all of Mèrr, and will come back, once it is safe again."
"Well that was quite unpoetic" whispered the delicate blonde "Yeah, it didn't even rhyme" said the brunnete a bit louder. "And what's this about going to land?" I added.
"Patience ladies, all your questions will be answered but first you shall stay this night here, to get acquainted with each other. We shall speak in the morning " said the Council member we have been following as she led us to a huge set of what I thing is land wood doors. She led us inside, informed us these were our quarters for the night and just as quickly as she said that she left.
So I guess we're staying here for the night.
Great.
"Well, we are going to be stuck here for an entire moon, might as well know each others names" said the brunnete. She introduced herself as Sirena of the North and the shy blonde said her name was Aquata from the Alexandria seas. She had a slight accent to her. Lastly I introduced myself as Tesse Aura but just said to stick to first names and forget formalities. After all, if we were going on this "great mission" we might as well call each other by our first names instead of the mouthfulls of names that I didn't even mention here.
