The Experiment

Prologue

Five years ago, me and my two best friends volunteered to be test subjects in an experiment. A scientist named Professor Wood was testing a machine that had the ability to morph beings into other beings in under a minute! We were hesitant at first, after all, we were only sixteen at the time. But we happily volunteered when he told us how much we would be paid for it. On the day of the experiment, we were led into a dimly lit science lab with three steel capsules with glass windows in the centre of the room, and some strange device on a table beside them. "Please step inside the capsules girls." Professor Wood instructed, and we obeyed. I took the one on the left, Isla took the one on the right and Aila took the middle. The glass doors slid closed around us and we heard them lock. "What do we have to do?" Aila asked, her voice just audible through the glass. "Just stand in there and try to keep as still as you can. If at any point you want out, just press the red button." I looked around and saw a small red button by my shoulder. "You girls good to go?" Asked the professor.
We all nodded, and he switched the machines on. It was strange. My whole body hurt like hell for a few seconds, then I went completely numb. And then I blacked out. I woke up a few seconds later, and I still couldn't feel a thing. Then the machines stopped, and the capsules opened. Dazed from the machines, I stumbled out, and saw my friends. We all gasped at the same time when we saw each other. It was like we were half cat, half human! Aila had cat ears and a cat tail, both a beautiful golden colour, and shining blue catlike eyes. Isla was the same, but with dark brown fur, and green eyes. Wow! " What'd I get?" I asked. Then I saw a mirror sitting on the table next to the machines, grabbed it, and looked at myself. My mouth dropped open. I was a snow leopard! My ears were white with black leopard spots, and so was my tail. I had piercing blue catlike eyes and slightly longer canines than usual. "Let me see!" Isla exclaimed, and grabbed the mirror out of my hand. There was lots of oohing and ahhing as the girls looked at themselves. Then i noticed something. "Guys, did you see where the professor went?" They stopped looking at themselves and looked around. "No." They said.
"I guess we can go now." Aila spoke up again.
