Chapter 5
Waking up in a bumpy carriage did not put me in the best mood. The kid, Prince “K” something or other was staring at me in silent amusement which kind of got on my nerves I wasn’t used to people other Darrin staring at me. I heard Darrin arguing with his dad King Jaxian Blackwood. His father wasn’t someone I was particularly fond of he just rubbed me the wrong way. Throughout the years he seemed to get more and more malicious and calculating. I had never known him to genuinely love anyone. Unless you count what he felt for Darrin which I definitely did not. When Derrick noticed Kiad staring at me and saw I was awake he smiled faintly and whispered something to
Prince Kiad loud enough for me to hear. “You might want to be careful; if Darrin catches you eyeing her you’ll end up wishing you’re dead.”
Darrin seemed to hear and his voice became heartless, “Kiad, just because you helped me find her doesn’t mean I will make allowances for you.” I shivered Darrin never used that voice where he thought I could hear. Realizing I was awake he smiled down at me.
I rested my head in his lap and looked up at him, “Darrin how close are we to brother?” He rolled his eyes and stroked my hair going back to arguing with his father. I pouted and looked at Derrick begging silently for an answer.
Kiad obviously found this funny because he was doing his best to hold back laughter. Derrick sighed and said, “Fine Krystal, I’ll tell you we have twelve more miles until we reach Darnsville then from there it will take us another half of a day to make it Fernstone. “ I groaned why did it take so long I wanted to be there now! Kiad couldn’t hold back the laughter any longer. Darrin and Derrick both gave him a murderous glare causing me to laugh.
“You guys are so interesting”, Prince Kiad said light dancing in his green eyes. “The rumors make you seem so violent and powerful but after meeting you I have to say you are totally different than I expected.” He said looking at Darrin in a challenging way. Darrin just continued running his hands through my hair.
Derrick laughed at that, “Oh, if that is what has been amusing you Darrin’s lack of violence? Well, you are never going to see Darrin lose his cool… in front of Krystal”, he said.
I wondered what that meant but Darrin’s smile was gone off of his face. “Krystal would you mind if I stop this carriage long enough to deal with my cute little brother.” He said through clenched teeth holding back his anger.
Frowning slightly I got up, “You will not Darrin! I want to see my brother and we are not going to delay that long enough for you to kill yours!” I scolded. The sad thing was I don’t think he would hesitate to kill Derrick and he had made it clear that I wasn’t supposed to know how he acted when I wasn’t around. Darrin’s temper was kind of scaring me so I did one of the most foolish thing I probably could of even though I knew he calmed down better with me by his side I switched sides so that I was now next to Derrick.
Derrick didn’t seem to mind in fact he seemed quite happy. I gave him a hug since I hadn’t seen him in a while. I caught him sticking his tongue out at Darrin as he held me close to him I rolled my eyes before sitting back down and resting my head on his shoulder. Even with my eyes closed I could feel Darrin’s eyes burning with jealousy. I was kind of afraid to open my eyes especially since the usually good natured Derrick had stopped laughing. Bravely I snuck a glance Darrin was literally fuming as he sat with his arms crossed seeing me rest my head on Derrick. I quickly moved it but it was obvious that he was stilled pissed at his little brother. “Krystal, come here.” He said still looking at Derrick like he wanted to kill him.
I silently obeyed and noticed that Prince Kiad was quite shocked at the sudden murderous intent that Darrin had towards his brother although I knew it wasn’t exactly sudden. Derrick used to joke around with him about how if he wasn’t careful he would steal me from away.
