"Ella have you finished packing all your boxes?" My mum shouted from down the stairs.
"Almost" I shouted back whist piling my CDs into a brown cardboard box.
Tonight was my last night in Manchester, my family and I were swapping city life for a small village, Holmes Chapel. My dad got a new job there, managing the local law firm and we were moving to our new house tomorrow.
We ordered Chinese takeout for dinner, it was easier since all our kitchen utensils were packed away. Mum was never really a fan of fast food but tonight I'm guessing she really couldn't be bothered.
My family is relatively normal. My Mum and Dad are the standard married couple and I have a younger brother, Luke.
It was nice to spend an evening all together, something we hadn't done in a while. My Dad would always be working late and I'd have a mountain of homework, but here we were laughing together as we watched a new episode of our favourite sitcom.
Moving wasn't really a big deal for me. I knew us moving would give Dad a better job and there was a great school for Luke and I to attend. I would miss my friends, especially my best friend Lucy, but at the end of the day we weren't moving far and I would make new ones soon enough. I've never really had any trouble socially.
At 10 Mum sent Luke and I to bed, her reasoning being we had a long day ahead and needed all the rest we could get.
The sleeping situation tonight wasn't great. All the boxes were being stored in my old room so Luke and I were on mattresses in his room.
I got into my pyjamas, brushed by teeth and hopped under the covers. I assumed Luke was already asleep so I turned on a small light and opened 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower'
About five minute later I heard Luke shuffling about. I sat up as he spoke.
"Ella?"
"Yes?"
"Do you want to move?"
He sounded upset. As much as he annoyed me I loved him to bits. I shuffled over to his mattress.
"Well not really, but you know it will be for the best." I said whilst wrapping him into a cuddle.
"You don't want to go do you?" I said knowingly. He nodded.
"Well there's nothing to be worried about. We'll be starting a great new school, Dad will be getting more money and you'll make new friends easily."
"Yeah I suppose"
"Anyway we have a long day ahead of us so you need your rest" I said and kissed him on the cheek.
"Yuck!"
I smiled to myself as I shuffled back to my mattress, that was the Luke I knew.

Authors Note.
Ok guys this is my first fanfic so don't be too criticising please.
I hope this chapter was ok. Obviously it's not very exciting yet but just bear with me I promise things will get exciting.
As for updating I've written the first 15 chapters already but I want people to actually start reading before I update. So let me know you've read this chapter and want more by voting and/or commenting.
Also grammar, spelling and punctuation has never been my strong point so just kindly let me know if you spot a mistake.
Those of you from the lovely land that is the US will notice I've said Mum not Mom. I'm English so Mum and probably a few other words I will spell differently to how you would. You're an intelligent bunch I'm sure you'll cope.
Picture showing cast on the side.
Anyway hopefully you enjoyed this chapter and want more.
I hope you're having lovely weekends,
Gemma x
