Why Me

What am I doing here? Why did I let Maira talk me into this? Why didn't I charge my phone before I left? Ugh. This is not what I thought would happen. Why Me?

******

"Rae! Hey, wait up girl!"

I turned around to see my best friend, and half-sister, Maira, running towards me. I turned my body fully, and stopped walking, waiting for her to catch up.

"Are you still giving me a ride?" She asked as soon as she was at a distance where she could talk normally and not shout.

"You know," I started. "It's truly amazing. You're older than me, yet you can't drive yourself." I winked at her and turned to find my car again.

"Hey," she huffed, walking besides me. "Two months. It's only two months. So, Rainer, are you driving me or not."

I gave her one of the dirtiest looks I could out of the side of my eye, and she saw she was smirking. "Rainer" was my nickname from childhood, when I would rain on everyone else's parade.

"Fine," I sighed. "But I swear if you call me that again I will punch you in the liver. I'm almost 17. You can't boss me around."

"Age is just a number baby," she stopped outside the passenger side door of my car. "So, we're going to do something tonight."

"Oh, are we?" I raised one eyebrow at her and gave her my look that said It's not happening. "What exactly do you have planned?" No offense to my sister but she was always getting in trouble, whether by the cops or our parents. It was just a normal thing for her.

"We're going to a party!" She looked really excited, which was never a good thing.

"No." I unlocked my car, and got in.

"What the hell do you mean no?" She stuck her head through the open window on her side. She tried (emphasis on tried) to give me her best puppy-dog eyes.

"I said no, Maira," I was about to start my car when I heard Maira gasp. I turned my head to look at her so quickly, I heard a crack. She wasn't looking at me, though; she was looking out past the car. I turned to find what she was looking at, rubbing my neck, and I saw the most beautiful boy I knew.

Darron Johnson. He's been my best friend for as long as I could remember, and he was also walking towards my car. When we made eye contact, he smiled and waved. He sped up his pace, and I noticed my door had been open since I began fighting with Maira, and my left leg was sill outside of the car. When Darron got to the car, he leaned up against the back door on the driver's side, and looked down at me.

"Sup Raw?" He asked, using the nickname he gave me in fourth grade. He dropped his bag from his shoulder, and it landed with a thud two inches from my leg. "Man, that bag was so heavy. Why do so many teachers want to give us homework at the same time?" He looked up for a second, saw Maira, and smirked, "Hey stranger. You going to Mike's party?"

"Planning on it," I heard her say, rolling my eyes and dropping my gaze. "Now I'm just trying to get this baby here to join us."

"US?" I thought to myself. "Jesus now I really can't go."

"Oh, Raw," I looked up to see Darron staring intently down at me. "You have to go!"

"Ugh," I groaned, rolling my eyes. "Why exactly do you need me?"

The way Darron looked at me made my heart flutter. "Because," he bent down to pick up his backpack. "I'll need someone to dance with."

And with that he walked away. Away from me, and my sister, who was smirking evilly at me from outside the car. "Oh get in," I huffed, slamming my door shut.

She did, but she kept an evil smirk on her smug little face. I put my keys in the ignition, turned to her, and cut off whatever sentence she was about to start. "I'll go," her smirk grew. "Under one condition."
