We crept along, careful to stay as quiet as possible.
I led the group in a line, everyone’s hands around the person in front’s waist so we didn’t lose anyone.
I watched as the Miners eyes went wide as they could no longer hear echoing footsteps.
We attempted to walk directly through the middle of Kat and Nick who were stood in the middle of the corridor with Tetra and Isaac on either side.
I watched with bated breath as they all stepped one foot forward and their arms went rigid as they assumed a defensive position. This made the gap between them considerably smaller making my task a whole lot harder. I slipped past as silently as I thought possible.
I continued to walk slowly forward to allow the rest of the group to pass through, but as I turned around I saw Nick’s arm move suddenly.
His head whipped around so fast I was sure he must have clicked his neck.
I grabbed Candy’s hands that were around my waist and pulled her towards the stairs as fast I could pull everyone’s weight.
I ran backwards so as to keep an eye on Nick, but I watched in horror as Nick reached out and grabbed something. I ran through the order we were standing in and realised that it was either Willow or Ringwood.
‘So you came back did you?’ Nick hissed at the space between him and Kat. ‘I thought you’d run back to your foul friends,’
I watched as he looked up and gave a small nod in Tetra’s direction.
The scream confirmed for me who Nick had grabbed, but to my dismay Willow still had her hand around Ringwood's waist. I was the only person not connected to the line, and the only person to not be shown up whilst being electrocuted.
It seems that Luca’s invisibility only worked when you weren’t being electrocuted, meaning the whole group, with the exception of me, was now visible to the 4 Peasant Miners.
‘BREAK THE LINE!’ I screamed out and watched as everyone attempted to break any connections between each other.
‘LUCA, CONTINUE!’ I called ensuring Willow was the only person visible.
‘ATTACK!’ I screeched as I charged at Kat, swinging my leg into the backs of her knees, which brought her tumbling into an uncomfortable position on the floor.
‘Ringwood, help!’ I called when I realised that despite their attackers being invisible the other Miners were managing to fight us off.
I took a couple of steps backwards as I saw 4 un-breakable bubbles lift the Miners away from us before being suspended in a huddle on the ceiling.
‘See you in class,’ I called over my shoulder I ran up the steps alongside everyone else, laughing as we ran along the streets, our eyes burning until they got used to the sunlight again. Ringwood and Mr Lee walked off in a different direction as everyone ran home. We continued to run until I was left with only Hale.
‘I wonder if our parents are worried.’ I asked him as I slowed to walking pace in order to catch my breath.
‘I dunno. But I hope they’re not mad,’ Hale muttered and I nodded, giving him a brief hug before we separated.
I wandered slowly up my front path, my heart beating over time in my chest.
I pushed the front door open hesitantly to find no one in the kitchen.
I dumped my bag before walking into the living room to find my mum on the phone, a grave look on her face.
‘Mum?’ I asked slowly, watching as the colour drained from her face.
‘DAD?’ I cried as he came rushing into the room, a backpack full of clothes in his hand.
‘We’ll be right there,’ my mum muttered into the phone before shakily putting it down.
‘Okay, what’s going on?’ I demanded.
‘Tom got hit by a car on his way home from school,’ my mum whispered
‘WHAT? I’M TRAPPED IN MY SCHOOL FOR A FEW DAYS AND SOMEONE RUNS OVER…’ I trailed off, a possible subject hitting me.
‘Oh I am seriously gonna KILL her if she’s behind this,’ I hissed as I followed my parents into the car.
