It all started with a....

CRASH!!

I leaped out of bed, frantic to determine the source of my panic. There was just an eerie silence. All I could hear was the soft pitter patter of rain on my roof and the booming of distant thunder. It must be downstairs. But then another crash, with pounding footsteps following from the direction of the thunderous noise, heading for the stairs. Then the sound of heavy feet sprinting down the hallway loud as a herd of elephants, past one room, then a second, suddenly coming to a stop at the third. It was only then that I realized, no one else was home, the door was locked, I was only one with the key, and the third door, is mine.

The door flew open, practically coming off its' hinges, lightning flashed, illuminating my room as bright as a sunny summer day. In the glow of the storm, all I could see was the outline of a man, tall, broad, and soaked. Water dripped off his long trench coat with every breath he took, the only thing I could see were his eyes. The dark, green, beautiful eyes, of my father that I saw in the mirror so similarly in my own eyes each day. The laughter and twinkle in his eyes that I knew as a child was long gone by now, just as long gone, as we thought he was.

What was confusing to me though, was that there was still menacing footsteps. Before I put it together that he was not the only one in my house, I immediately started spitting out question after question. I threw them into the space between us without thinking, "where have you been! why did you leave! How long have you known we were..." he cut me off just to croak out only a few words, "They know, and they want me for it, I love you baby girl. Hopefully we see each other again soon. Take care of them" That was all he could say before the source of the other steps paused in my doorway. The look in the mans evil, red, iridescent eyes, that were so extremely fixated on my father told me everything I needed to know. First, that he wasn't here for me, and also, that he was taking my father with him... and the look on my fathers face, he wasn't going without a fight.

The men simply stared at each other for what seemed like ages. It was actually probably only a matter of seconds, the evil mystery man made the first move, reaching just past the door, quickly grabbing my lamp and busting the glass base over my fathers head, my father gave a few meek punches but was no match for the man which I was so sure could kill him in an instant. My dad was never one to fight, more so the kind to simply walk away. The mystery man in a rough, accented voice said, "If you can find him, you will save him... you have 3 months, if you don't, then he will be returned to you, but only piece by piece"

Suddenly, I hear my name, distant at first, then slowly coming into focus... my dad, telling me to wake up, I was scared, not because I was gonna be late for school. I was scared because my dreams always come true, I pray this is not one of those times.

I crawled out of bed and the feeling of overwhelming dread washed over me in a wave then slowly subsided. I had to get ready for my first day at my new school, Central Ridge High School.
