Chapter 5 - Fate

"What are you doing sitting on the ground?" Chase's voice asks.

I look up at him, his emerald eyes are shining even more bright in the sunlight. "I...I don't know," I twitch because the serum is still in my system.

Chase sits down next to me. "Your in pain?"

"Is it that noticeable?" I grab a strand of my hair and start fidgeting with it.

"Kinda," he pauses before continuing. "I know you lied back in the court room."

I bite my lip. "Do you think others noticed?"

He shrugs. "Maybe. But I doubt Rose did, she's not very...bright."

I manage a small smile. "What will they do to me?"

He doesn't answer right away. "To be honest... I have no idea," he looks down at a ant crawling on the ground. "Since you're Royal I doubt they can do anything that bad."

"That bad?"

He shrugs. "I don't know," he pauses. "But, why did you lie about some things?"

The serum stings a bit and I twitch a little.

Chase's notices. "Oh my gosh I'm so sorry," he looks at me. "I forgot you still had the serum in your system, you don't have to answer."

The stinging stops. "Thanks," something about him makes me trust him. I don't know if I should tell him but it seems like I can. I bite my lip and look at him deciding if I should tell him or not.

Chase gets up. He holds out a hand for me. "We have to get back," a bell rings alerting us that it's time to go back. I take his hand and his strong muscles help me up. He begins to turn around but I stop him.

"Wait," I look down at my feet and take a deep breathe. "I'll tell you."

He turns around to face me. "Bree, you really don't have to. It's not my business."

"I think I trust you," I pause and look at him. "I lied about my name because... Because my aunt hid my name from me for a reason."

"Wait so your names not Bree?"

I laugh a little. "No, my name is Bree... Bree Ritcher," I whisper Ritcher very quiet he could barely hear me.

His eyes go wide. "Are you joking?"

I shake my head. "Dead serious," I pause. "Why is that bad?"

Chase looks confused. "You don't know the history of the Ritchers do you?"

I shake my head. "No. Do you?"

He smirks a small smirk. "Yeah," he looks around and sees everyone going in. "I'll explain to you when this is over," he starts walking.

I follow. "But what if I won't see you again?" I ask worried. We enter through the doors together.

"We will. Don't worry," he winks at me before he takes his seat.

I stand in the middle of the room again. Dallas comes down from his stand with a needle in his hand. "Don't worry," he notices the worried look on my face as I watch the needle. "It's the antidote for the truth serum."

I exhale a breath of relief. "Oh, thanks," I put my light brown wavy hair to one side of my shoulders.

Dallas huddles the needle above my neck then presses the plunger. The antidote takes away all the burning and the stinging. After he puts the antidote in he goes back to his place.

"We have decided your fate," Rose announces.

My heart rate quickens and I bite my lip and fold my hands together. I nod.

"You are allowed to continue on your little adventure," Dallas says.

I smile a wide smile showing off my perfectly straight white teeth. "Thank you."

Rose and Dallas do this signal with their hands and people start to get up and leave. Lacey, Chase, and Drake stay and a couple of other people too.

"Do you know how to fight?" Dallas asks me.

"I do, but I'm really not good at it," I pause. "I've never actually encountered like a fighting battle before."

"Then you'll need guards to keep you safe," Rose says.

"I can go," Chase offers. "Besides it'll be good for me anyway to see all of Valencia."

Rose and Dallas look at each other. "And I can go too," Lacey says. "I'm going into a future like Chase's so it'll be good for me too."

I'm shocked Chase and Lacey offered to go with me, especially that Lacey offered.

"We'll consider that and get back to you in about ten minutes," Rose says as her and Dallas walk off into another room.

I walk up to Chase and Lacey. Drake leaves us alone and goes outside with a girl that passes by us. "Thank you...but why did you guys offer to go with me?" I ask both of them.

Chase smiles. "Because I want to explore. I've been in this same territory for almost all my life now."

"And same," Lacey says. We both at laugh that response. Maybe Lacey has feelings for Chase?

"Well thank you guys," I pause before saying the next thing I want to say. "But I don't want to get you guys hurt. There's probably demons out there. Can you two even fight?"

Chase chuckles. "Probably? No, there will be demons. And you really don't have to worry about us because I'm kinda the best fighter that comes."

Lacey smiles and kind of blushes. "And I come a close in tenth best."

I laugh lightly. "Okay. Wait, you guys keep score of who's top fighter?"

"Yeah pretty much," Lacey answers.

"Bree," Dallas calls out with his strong voice. "We agree to your trip on a couple of conditions."

"Thank you," I nod my head down. "What are the conditions exactly?"

"We have to implant a one-way one-time shard portal into one of you. Which is basically a small fragment of a portal that opens when we want it to open and you can only use it once to one place which is here," Rose holds up the shard portal. "And you have exactly four weeks to complete this quest.

The three of us look at each other. "Okay," we all say.

"Also we can't implant the shard portal into Chase," Rose nearly drools over him.

"Why?" He asks.

"Because you're too perfect for it," she answers in a flirty tone.

"Um, that doesn't really make sense but okay."

"You can implant in me," Lacey steps up.

"Are you sure?" I ask her.

"Very sure," she walks up to them. Dallas and her go off into another room

"We'll provide one infinity backpack with three weeks of food supply for the three of you, a tent, a 100 of intex showers," Rose explains.

An infinity backpack is where you can pack all the supplies you need and never run out of room. It was a warlocks creation that is used everywhere around Valencia. An intex shower is where you put like a slab on your chest and it instantly washes your body like you just took a shower. Also gives you clean clothes you connect it too. Intex showers are also created by a warlock.

"When will we leave?" Chase asks.

"Tomorrow morning right when the sun gets up," Rose answers.

That settles it. Tomorrow morning I will enter a whole new life. Who knows what will happen when I actually find Magnus, or if I actually find him.
