Our life is so precariously fragile. We depend on chance, and hope for the best. We have no real securities. Our life sits without security that we may be alive the next day. Anything could happen. At anytime, any place. Life is so precious, and I know that now.
I used to take life for granted. I would party, and even drink and drive. I would throw my life around. Just as an owner throws their dog a ball, hoping it would come back with the ball still intact. I didn't understand that one day my life would end so suddenly, with out any reason at all. With out a good reason at least.
I was sitting on my couch when it happened. I was catching up on the homework I had missed from skipping school. My grades depended on me finishing these few assignments. I had left my front door open, since it was over thirty degrees today, a normal temperature for New Orleans. I lived in a smaller town. Everyone had huge properties and small homes. Nobody had a lot of money out here, and it was dangerous if you did.
Not many people go walking out here, most people stay in their backyards and in their property. It was just a neighbourhood custom. You just didn't go out for a walk in my neighbourhood.
I heard a noise as I quickly turned my neck. There he was, in his black ripped jeans and a t-shirt. He had not noticed me yet as he kicked rocks down the curb. Maybe he was was going somewhere, maybe he was just passing through.
I flipped the page in my text book over and clicked my pen. My arm began to get sore, and my feet felt like they had gone numb. Pins and needles us what they called it. It was probably just from sitting crosslegged, so I stretched out.
My mistake.
My heart began to beat to an incredibly fast pace. Then all together it felt as if it stopped, the feeling of a brick being dropped onto my heart. It hurt like hell. I closed my eyes, which I had no intention of, it was almost as if it was forced. I fell to the ground, my textbooks crumpled under me.
