"I want you to fall in love with me, for I have already fallen for you."
"What?" I asked, bewildered. My head suddenly felt dizzy and the world tilted.
When I wake up again, it is to the sound of my alarm. Was is all a dream?
I look around my room and my eyes land on a note lying on my desk chair.
See you soon, Lu.
Death.
I clamp a hand over my mouth to stop the scream that is rising in my throat. The note slips from my fingers and erupted into flames before it could reach the floor. My knees buckle and I come crashing to the ground, tears hitting the ground along side my knees.
"Why are you crying?" Says a childish voice from my bathroom. I whip my head around to look and find the dragon looking at me. I clamp my other hand over my mouth.
After gaining my composure I speak. "Why are you still here? Shouldn't you have, I don't know, gone inside me or something? You are my soul, right?" I sit back on my heels as the dragon comes to sit in front of me.
"I am your soul but, I am not able to go back inside you because I have taken physical form. The only time I can go back there," She points to my chest. "Is after Dede puts me back."
"Dede?"
"Yeah, Dede, you meet him last night. He also goes by Death or evil lord or dark fae or King and like, hundreds of other names." As the dragon speaks, bits of fire come from its mouth and drift in the air before going out.
"And you? What's your name?" I ask, standing to start getting ready for school. Death himself may have just confessed his love to me, but I still have a test in chem today.
"I don't have a name." I whirl on the dragon.
"He didn't give you a name? What did he always call you?" I pull on some jeans and a plane black t-shirt.
"He always called me by your name, being your soul and all."
"Oh." I say dumbly. "How about you choose a name? Pick a name that you want to be called." I tell the dragon, walking past her to the bathroom.
"Choose my own name? You're letting me chose my own name?" She sounded confused, like she was never given a choice before.
"I don't see why not." Pulling a brush through my hair straight black hair, I come to stand in front of her. Her eyes light up when I look into them, like a bright blue fire.
"Then I want to be called," She trails off and drums her claws on my hard wood flooring. "Carmen." She says. "I want to be called Carmen."
"Alright, Carmen." I test the name and pull on a pair of socks. "Can anyone else see you or just me?" I ask, remembering all the times in movies where a spirit follows around someone and can only be seen by that one person.
"Just you and only you can hear me. But then again, Dede can hear and see me too."
"Oh." I get up and pull on a pair of converse. "So, tell me about yourself or myself or something. I don't know." I shrug and open my bedroom door.
"I am you."
"But at the same time not me. You are a dragon that sounds like a five year old girl."
"Fair point." Carmen says in a voice that could have been a old woman's voice. When I turn to look at her, she is in the shape of a deer. "But I can be so much more."
"How did you do that? I thought you were a dragon not Bambi." I blink and Carmen is once again a dragon, scales and all.
"My original form is a dragon, but because Dede gave me this power, I can be anything you want."
"He gave you this power, for me?" I walk down the stairs, stunned.
"He really does love you. Not only am I your soul, but I am like a portable camera that can see into your past and future. He know everything about you, Lucy. Things that you yourself don't even know."
I cringe at the thought of him seeing my entire timeline.
"Is that why he have gave you back?"
"Yeah, he thought if you could feel again, you would learn to love him. He spent a long time fighting with his court about this, but a king is a king."
"He's a king!?" I ask alarmed. Why would a king waste his time with me?
"Carp! You weren't supposed to know that." Carmen wraps her tail around my waist and lifts me up.
"What are you doing?" She didn't answer, but rather blew purple fire around me. Like before it didn't burn but felt like cool velvet.
"Shouldn't you go eat breakfast?" Carmen asks. I don't know why, but I'm standing on stairs, staring at nothing in particular.
"Yeah." I walk down the rest of the stair and to the fridge. What was I saying just now? Can't have been important if I don't remember it.
