Laura was a girl who adored books. She never put a book down, not even at the dinner table. You could always see Laura at Mr. Linden's library, which had the best books in town. Now, keep in mind that Mr. Linden had nothing to do with what was about to happen to Laura, but what was about to happen was her fault for not listening.
On that day, Laura went to Mr. Linden's library like any other day. She walked in, said hello to Mr.Linden and started walking over to the non-fiction section. She stopped, though, because she thought she'd try a different genre. She was tired of reading the same types of books and she already knew what books were in that section anyway. Laura scanned the library looking for something that would keep her interest.
As she looked through, she couldn't seem to find anything. Then she spotted the "New Book" section. "There has to be something that I would want to read there" Laura thought. She walked to the section, wondering when Mr. Linden got a new book area. It hadn't been there before. "Maybe he had ordered new books and wanted to display them," She thought.
Once Laura got there, she scanned the binds of the books, searching for something eye catching. Looking through the names, she found one entitled "Secrets of the jungle Monji." She had never heard or read anything about "Monji." Plus, the cover was faded and the pages were yellowed. "I wonder why is this in the new book area?" Laura thought
As she pondered this, she took the book to Mr. Linden's check out desk. She slid the book on the counter and asked, "Why is this in the 'New Book' section? It doesn't look new." Mr. Linden took the book and said, "Oh, someone must've misplaced it, I'll put it back where it belongs. Thank you, Laura."
When Mr. Linden turned to put the book away, Laura shouted, "Wait! Uh, I was going to check that out." Mr. Linden turned his head, a stunned expression on his face, "You can't, this is book is way too dangerous."

Laura, now walking home, thought to herself, "Mr. Linden's crazy. There's no way that could happen." She walked through the front door of her home and ran straight to her room and started reading. She was intrigued by the book. Laura read for hours and she slowly drifted to sleep, leaving the book open on her bed.
Mr. Linden had warned her, but now it was too late. Vines were crawling out of the book and soon the whole jungle of Monji was in her room, including all the animals. Once Laura opened her eyes, she was bewildered at the sight. Wide eyed, Laura slid off her bed and walked around. She couldn't believe it! Then she thought, "I must be dreaming." Pacing around the jungle in her room, Laura then came across a saber tooth tiger! She froze. Completely still, unsure of what to do. Then the tiger ran straight after her. Laura ran for her life, trying to find a hiding place.
Laura then remembered what Mr. Linden had said to her, "The only way to get rid of the jungle is to close the book." Laura ran over to her bed, the tiger catching up to her now. Searching for the book, Laura found it covered in vines. The tiger, by her legs now, opened It's mouth to bite her at the same moment Laura closed the book. Once she shut it, everything disappeared.
