EMBER P.O.V

I envied them. I wanted to be like them. Why couldn't I be one of them? I was supposed to be one of them. Both my parents were one of them, both my grandparents were one of them, heck, my whole family line was fairy. But not me.

When my mother became pregnant with me my entire family celebrated, I would be the next fairy with pure fairy blood. I was unique, most fairies intermarried with different species and their offspring possessed tainted blood, which meant they were not as powerful as a full-fledged fairy.

I was going to be the only fairy baby in my town, actually, country, with pure fairy blood flowing through my veins. My mother's brothers and sisters vowed to protect me, vowed they would look after one so special as me during the werewolf wars, but I'll address that topic later.

I was born November 12th 2000; I had curly blond hair and green eyes. My mother tells me that on the day of my birth my whole family came and celebrated, she says my aunts and uncles actually argued over who was to hold me next. I was given dolls, dresses, and the best room a baby could ask for. My family spoiled me, they loved to spoil me. That all sadly changed however, on my sixth birthday... You see, a fairies sixth birthday is said to be the most "glorious" of all days in the life of a fairy, it is the day when a fairy is given their fairy wings and gift by the moon goddess herself, it was the day that changed my life forever, and weird enough, I remember that day as if it were yesterday....

I was wearing my favorite princess dress, my light up sneakers popping out from beneath it. My tiny frame was buzzing with excitement, I was going to be a fairy like tinker bell! I giggled to myself and laid back in my car seat, rubbing my face into my fuzzy blanket, trying to calm myself so the moon goddess wouldn't think I was weird.

"Are we there yet?" I grumbled, running my pudgy hands down my face.

My mom turned around in her seat and grinned at me, pride lighting up her face.

"Does it look like we're there yet, silly billy?" she questioned.

I glanced out the window to see that we were passing a big boring store called 'Lowes'.

"No, unless da moon goddess wants to meet me at Lowes," I replied.

My mommy chuckled and turned back around. I wonder what the moon goddess will think of me; will she like me? Hate me? I started thinking wearing my princess dress may not have been such a good idea, my cousin, Shan, said I should wear a fairy dress. She said I looked stupid in this dress, but, I like THIS dress! Shan isn't gonna boss me around, no way!

"We're getting closer," my daddy informed me as we rounded a corner down an abandoned dirt road.

Pressing my face up against the cold glass of the car window, I started running through how I should act when I meet the moon goddess. First, I'm going to curtsy, then I'll smile at her, showing her that I'm nice and should be given an awesome gift, like an air or water fairy. Oh, how much fun I could have if I was a water fairy, I could make my bathwater fly around my head in the shape of a helicopter, and I could dose Shan whenever she was being mean to me.

My dad pulled the car to a stop and I quickly ran a finger through my frizzy blonde hair, taming it as best I could. The click of my door being opened invited the cool forest air into the car.

"Come on sweetie, let's not keep the moon goddess waiting," my mom exclaimed as she unbuckled my car seat and lifted me up, out of the car.

My dad grabbed one of my tiny hands and my mom grabbed the other, I felt so loved, wanted, adored. We walked a little while until we found this beautiful waterfall. This was the goddess falls, well, that's what us fairies call them. My parents released my hands and they both pulled me into a group hug.

"You have to do this alone, but don't worry cutie, we'll be out here waiting for you." My mom whispered into my hair. I nodded, breathing in the comforting scent of lilacs she always smelled of.

I pulled away from my parents, flattened out my dress, straightened the bow in my hair, and kicked my shoes together so they lit up.

"Do I look pretty enough to meet her?" I asked, turning about in a full circle.

"You do sweetie, you do. Now go along, don't worry about getting your dress wet." My dad instructed.

Turning away from my parents, I began walking towards the waterfall. Taking the secret passage through the reeves, I made it into the cave behind the falls quite quickly.

I gasped as I took in the beauty of the cavern. Colorful shells covered the walls and in the middle of the cave was the chair of new beginnings. The chair of new beginnings was the place each fairy sat when they received their gifts, there was about five of these chairs in the entire world. Fairies traveled from all over the world to sit in these chairs and receive their powers, you would only receive your powers on your sixth birthday or (if you weren't able to sit in the chair of new beginnings on your sixth birthday) your twenty sixth birthday.

Cautiously, I crept up to the chair and climbed into it. My skin became goose bump filled as it came in contact with the cold marble chair. Sitting upright I once again flattened my dress and hair, trying to look satisfactory enough to meet the ruler of the supernatural word; the moon goddess.

Then, I waited.

And waited.

And waited.

And waited some more.

My butt was becoming sore from sitting on this marble seat, why couldn't they make these things out of feather cushions, or maybe leather?

"Um, Miss Moon Goddess? Uh, could you give me my wings? Because I, um, need them. But, I really if your saving the world, I can wait, I mean, uh, if you're, uh, busy, uh, that's fine, take your time..." I mumbled, trying to sound as reverent as possible.

A few minutes passed, nothing.

A few more minutes passed, still nothing.

A lot more minutes passed, nope, nothing.

"Your Greatness, uh, Moon Goddess.... Could you, um, please give me power now? I would really ap-" and I blacked out.
