Chapter 9:

“Wake up! You have an hour to get ready for school!” Mom's voice calls from downstairs. I groan and roll over to look at the clock. My eyes widen when I see that it's only 6:30. You've got to be kidding me! Do they really expect me to get up every morning at 6:30? I sigh and throw my blankets off of me. Might as well get started.

I walk to my closet and run my hands through my clothes. Finally, I choose a tight fitting, brown, Aeropostale shirt. I grab a pair of light blue jeans with holes in the thighs. Lastly, I grab my brown boots and pull them on over a pair of bright green socks.

I sit down at my vanity and straighten my hair. I took a shower last night so my hair would be clean and I could straighten it. It only takes a few minutes since I straightened it before I went to bed.

When I'm done with my hair and jog down the stairs and poor myself a bowl of cocoa pebbles, my favorite cereal ever. I sit down and turn on the T. V. I flip through twenty channels of nothing but black and white fuzzy stuff, until I finally turn it off. I set my bowl down in the kitchen and run back upstairs to brush my teeth.

“Bye mom!” I yell into the house. No answer. She probably left already. She has to go job searching today.

I walk out the door, locking it behind me, and start walking down the street. I see a bunch of people standing around a stop sign. Oh boy, here comes the socially awkward girl. I walk up to the stop sign and look around.

There's a group of guys standing in the road. They're all huddled around each other. A few girls are standing in a group and looking me up and down. Snobs. Then, there's a girl and a guy standing off to the side by themselves. The girl is beautiful, with long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. The guy, is very handsome. His perfectly muscled arms are crossed over his chest and he's standing protectively close to the blonde haired girl. They're probably dating.

I frown. I've never had a boyfriend before. Or a first kiss. I'm fifteen years old and as virgin as they come.

“Hey, are you coming?” Someone interrupts my thoughts. I turn slightly and see the blonde girl standing by the bus. I blush at my unawareness.

“Yeah, thank you.” I thank her and walk onto the bus.

“Are you new?” I snotty voice asks me. It's the bus driver.

“Yes, mam.” I tell her. She looks confused at my politeness, and then smiles.

“You can sit right behind me.” She tells me, her attitude completely changed. I nod and sit down.

“Hey.” It's the blonde girl. She's sat down right next to me. I move over to make more room for her.

“Hey.” I tell her, unable to think of anything else to say.

“What's your name?” She asks. I smile on the inside.

“Emilie, what about you?” I ask her in return.

“Libby.” She answers. Play it cool, Emilie.

“What grade are you in?”

“Tenth, you?”

“Same.”

“Where did you move from?” She asks, shifting in the seat.

“A small town, about three hours away. Bakersville.”

“Oh, I just moved here this year from Florida.” Wow, from Florida to Virginia.

“Do you miss your friends?” I ask her. She turns to face me.

“I don't have any friends.” She tells me. I know exactly how she feels.

“Me either.” She looks up.

“Not even from your old school?” She asks.

“No, I've never had any friends. But, your really pretty. I'm surprised your not one of the popular kids.” I can't believe this! I'm so glad I'm actually talking to someone.

“Thank you, but I've always been one to keep to myself.” I look down, I know the feeling.

“Me too.”

“What do you say,” She says turning to fully face me. “We'll be friends, just the two of us?” I can see the hope in her eyes. I smile widely, giddiness filling my insides.

“I say most definitely!” I giggle when she smiles.

“I'm so glad you moved here!”

“I'm glad I did too.”
