An old song plays at the back of my mind

We were still young and life was kind

Flashbacks taking me to a different scene

When searching for your way back home was easy to find

I’m running from room to room, playing hide and seek

Yelling at my sister ''don't you dare look'' as I sneak

and as I start to look for my perfect hiding place

She counts down, getting ready to chase

A familiar room, a familiar scent

When things would seem exactly as they meant

Running to my safest place, I jump into grandpa's bed

Laughing out loud as I cover my face

Didn't know back then how did it feel

To lose someone you can't replace

School’s first day, new bags and shoes

When the only real issue was which color to choose

Back when I was still learning how to spell and count

Before all the worries started to amount

School's play ground and my favorite games

Now all I have got left are picture frames

Dad's bedtime stories and when he tucks me in

Kissing my forehead goodnight and I answer back with a grin

Couldn't sleep without my favorite toy to hold

Wish that I never had to grow old

Swinging high, reaching out to touch the sky

Running around the park, trying to catch a colorful butterfly

Didn't realize then how fast time flies by

Going through my childhood albums, thinking how I looked like that

Trying to match my new features, with the ones I once had

My eyes are still the same, but they are bitter now

I used to have so much fun, now I don't even know how

Jumping up and down my own bed, things were simple when I was

a kid

Candy and favorite cartoons made my days

When I used to believe in all fairytales

Now all I have is a dusty shelf

Filled with all the lost pieces of myself

When the source of my joy

Was a little plastic toy

Now I don't even know what I want

Don't you wish that you have stayed a happy innocent child for good?
