Jarvis picked his way gently through the fronds of bracken that led to the peeling black gate at the back of the school. His scrawny body fit just perfectly through the bars as he sat on the old tan bench, not minding the chips of paint falling over his body, as he pulled his guitar out of it's small black case. The strings were perfectly sized for his chubby fingers to pluck and the band was just small enough to feel like a safe seatbelt around his waist and right shoulder for him to play. He tuned the top and took a deep breath, moving his right hand to the top of the instrument while beginning to strum peacefully with his left. Stuck in his own little world, he didn't notice a girl from his math class approaching, sitting next to him on the long yellow-orange bench. She unplugged the headphones from her iPhone 6S and left them hanging around her neck, tapping Jarvis on the shoulder. Jarvis, in shock, nearly fainted. One of his many phobias was people getting to close to him, or haphephobia. He scooted to the very edge, but he was somewhat drawn to the girl. He never knew her name, nor wanted to, but now he wanted anything to do with her.
"Ummm, hello. I don't suppose you heard that?" Jarvis asked uncertainly.
"Hi. I'm Luna Openshaw. Your music is beautiful." she meowed, flipping her bright blonde fridges out of her face.
Jarvis narrowed his eyebrows and put his guitar back in his case, zipping it up quietly.
"It's not that good..." he folded his hands together and sat, swinging his feet awkwardly.
"I think you'd be great musician." Luna smiled, but as Jarvis followed her small, thin hands, she covered a large scar under her mouth, dried blood on her fingers.
"What happened to you?" Jarvis asked worriedly.
"It's nothing. I got in a little accident with Drew." she explained confidently, scratching her chin.
Drew. Jarvis shuddered and his eyebrows twitched like his cat's paw when she was having a dream or nightmare. He was that big, bulky bully of high school that you always have. He's always causing fights, and his girlfriend Cherri is too pretty and smart and perfect not to like, so Drew brews trouble with anyone who even dares to talk to her. He once beat up a seventh grader when he was passing out fliers to Cherri.
"He's not fond of anybody, really." Luna twisted her nails through her hair nervously, for the first time since Jarvis met her.
