As Raeleah got off the bus she shivered at the New York weather. It was January, months after Clary had stopped Sebastian. The demon activity was lower than it had been but not by much. Every once in a while they would get reports of demons killing mundanes. Always the same thing, she thought as she turned right heading towards the Institute.

Reaching the end of the block, she stopped as cars flashed by. As she waited for the 'walk' sign to light up she put her earphones in and cranked her music up. After what felt like forever the sign finally lit up. She started walking again. Three more blocks and she would be there. Two blocks. One block and another 'Don't Walk' sign. She waited again. An ear splitting bang cut through her music. She ripped her earbuds out just as the 'walk' sign lit up. She ran ahead and stopped in the middle of the street. The noise came from her left. She knew this because that's where the people were running towards. Everybody except for one guy who seemed to be running towards her. As he got closer she noticed that he was running towards her. She also noticed that claws had erupted from his hands and his mouth was full of sharp teeth that cut through the air. She pulled a seraph blade free from the inside of her coat.

As the guy got closer his skin exploded around him. Thinking he had magically disappeared she put her seraph blade down until he burst through the flesh no longer a human but a demon. A Dahak demon. It had scaly skin like a lizard and a thick tail with razor barbs flashing through the air. It's eyes were mismatched but she knew from reading about them that they had incredible eyesight but were only able to see far away. Anything up close would be unrecognizable. That was her advantage.

She brought her seraph blade up again and shouted "Nakir," to give the blade power. She ran toward the demon, bringing her blade up and swinging it down on its left shoulder. Black ichor poured from its wound while it screamed. The demon flung her aside and she fell on the snowy sidewalk. The air got knocked out of her lungs and she struggled to find breath. Finally catching it she jumped up and tried to think of a plan. The demon was walking toward her. More like waddling, she thought. She suddenly remembered how terribly balanced they were. She looked around for a patch of ice . There. A little ways up the street. She ran for it looking behind her. The demon was gaining speed. Perfect. The faster it's running the harder it'll fall.

Before reaching the ice, she slowed to a walk and crossed it, careful not to slip. She waited for the demon with her seraph blade up. Closer and closer it came until finally the demon reached her. Backing up a little, Raeleah made sure there was space between them so it wouldn't fall on her. Like she planned, the demon slipped. It's feet went out from under it and he went down, hands clawing for something to grab onto as he unfortunately found her arm. But she didn't go down with it. She looked down at her arm as three gashes started dripping blood. But with the adrenaline pumping through her she hardly felt it. She brought her blade above her and swung down as hard as she could on the demons neck, severing it's head from its body. The head rolled a little ways before finally both it and the body folded in on itself until disappearing completely. She looked at her arm again and this time the blood was bubbling. Great, she thought. Poisonous too. She must've forgot.

Raeleah got her phone out and dialed Jace's number but only got his voicemail. She started running and this time she tried calling Clary. Only a block away. As soon as she got to the gates of the Institute Clary picked up. "Hello," clary answered. But before Raeleah could get a single word out she collapsed. Her head was spinning and she could feel the poison coursing through her veins. She saw feet racing towards her through the blackness clouding her vision. She heard people calling her name. That's all she was aware of before slipping into darkness.
