Chapter 8-
"Surgery!? What for!?" Lauren half yelled trying to get an answer
"He had blunt force trauma to the head and a foreign object punctured his rib cage. We have to go in and make sure his brain doesn't hemorrhage and his lungs don't collapse" the doctor tried to explain as best as possible and Lauren clung to Steven. Steven was still yet to awake.
"Ms. Cohan. We have to take Mr. Yeun" the doctor said as Lauren very slowly got up, regretting getting up at that.
"He will be fine Laur" Emily comforted as Lauren snapped at her
"You don't know that! And only Steven gets to call me that!"
"You know know that he won't"
"I don't want to talk to you, I want you to leave."
"Lauren..."
"Now."
"Fine" Emily said as she left. She didn't go far, she only went into the waiting area to wait for Steven.
"Steven will be okay" Melissa said as she hugged Lauren and tried to comfort her. Lauren broke down crying into her shoulder. She really didn't want to go through this. Not now, nor ever
"Baby, why'd you leave me, why'd you have to go
I was counting on forever, now I'll never know
I can't even breathe
It's like I'm looking from a distance,
Standing in the background
Everybody's saying, he's not coming home now,
This can't be happening to me
This is just a dream"
~5 hours after the surgery~
"Ms. Cohan?" The doctor asked as he approached the growing group. Andrew and danai both joined Emily, Norman, Melissa, and Lauren
"Yes?" Lauren said hopeful as she looked at the doctor
"Mr. Yeun is perfectly fine and the surgery was a success" the doctor said as Lauren smiled big and breathed a sigh of relief.
"When can I see him!?"
"You can go see him now"
Lauren quickly followed the doctor into the hospital room and quickly rushed to his side. She let out a small gasp as she realized how his face was almost completely unrecognizable. She grabbed his hand but felt no movement. She let a few tears escape as she had to face her fears.
"How long will he be out?" Lauren asked. Her voice very small and quiet. She didn't want to lose Steven or even have to think about losing him
"He shouldn't be out much longer"
~3 months later-
That scene had been playing in Lauren's head for months. Lies. All a big lie. It has been a huge lie. "He wouldn't be out much longer" bull! Steven has been in a coma for 3 months. THREE! Lauren was sick and tired of watching her boyfriend probably not wake up. Everyone told her to just pull the plug, but she could never do that to her Steven. Never.
Lauren tried to stay hopeful as she kissed his hand. Just as she kissed her hand, she felt a twitch. After the twitched she saw the flutter of his eyelids
"Stevey!!" Lauren yelled excitedly as she hugged him
"Lauren" Steven said happily as he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. Lauren let out a small giggle as she was held close.
"Everything i said before the accident is true. I love you Steven"
"I love you too Lauren"
"It's been 3 months Steven"
"Since?"
"Since the accident"
"Wait... What!?"
"You've been in a coma. It was suggested that I just pull the plug. I just couldn't do that" Lauren cried as she clung tightly to Steven. Steven held her close and rubbed her back.
"Mid-February shouldn't be so scary
It was only December
I still remember the presents, the tree, you and me
But you went away
How dare you, I miss you
They say I'll be OK
But I'm not going to ever get over you"
"You went away and I never thought I would see you again" Lauren choked on tears as she spoke "I couldn't handle the thought of losing you. I need you in my life"
"And I need you in mine. I love you so so much Laur" Steven spoke softly as Lauren broke down crying into his chest.
