Running Out Of Time

CHAPTER 2...

"Thank you!" I said to the cashier as I left Lucy's Cheaters.

"Anytime doll." he smiled kindly to me as I walked out of the store. I had just bought the outfit I had seen in the window and was currently wearing it.

I walked across the road to Starbucks to get a mocha. As I opened the door I felt as if someone was staring at me. Looking around to see who it could be I saw him. A man in his forties just staring at me. Now aware of his intense stair I ordered my mocha and sat at the other end of the shop.

"Hello there. New in town?"

I jumped, surprised at the voice behind me. I turned around to face the guy. He looked kind of familiar ... oh! He was the creepy cute guy that was staring at me earlier.

"I'm Jake Ryan. What's your name?"

"Stacy Showman. Nice to meet you." I replied, but out of the corner of my eye I could see the man who was staring at me. He didn't look happy.

"So you're new in town?" Jake repeated his question from earlier.

"Oh um, yeah. Well kind of." I told him. I didn't know if he would believe me if I told him I had stayed in the 'forbidden mansion' as I had heard people call it.

"Well what do you mean by 'kind of'?" he asked me as he took a seat across from me.

"Weeelllll... Ive lived in this neighborhood for fourteen years, but I stayed in the mansion on Elmer street. So I only came out whenever I needed food." I told him. I felt as if maybe I shouldn't have told him so much. Who knows? This handsome stranger could be a murderer for all I know.

Jake started to say something but his cell phone cut him off. He talked quietly then hung up.

"I'm terribly sorry but I have to get going. I'll see you around, right?" he asked with a hopeful look in his eye.

"Yeah, probably." I smiled up at him and he left.

I sipped on my mocha and heard footsteps approaching me. I looked up to see if Jake was coming back, maybe he forgot something.

My heart slammed into my chest.
