“Hey, Care! Matt!” I hugged my two friends, and looked to see an average-looking guy with light brown hair and chocolate brown eyes give me a smile. He was wearing a checkered shirt and jeans and had both hands in his pocket.

“Elena, this is Louis. Louis, this is Elena Gilbert, one of my best friends,” Caroline introduced us.

I hugged Louis and greeted him, “Come in, Louis.”

I closed the door behind everyone, and walked over to the couch where Damon had stood up.

“Louis, this is Damon,” I gestured towards my suspicious-looking Salvatore.

“Damon Salvatore, right?” Louis extended a hand to Damon.

Damon tilted his head to one side, “Right.” They shook hands and we all sat down.

“Bourbon, anyone?” Damon offered as he poured himself a glass.

“Sure, why not?” Louis said.

“So, Elena, I hear you’re excited for college,” Louis began to make conversation. I could see Damon clutch his glass tightly when he began speaking about that. He relaxed instantly, smiling. He was probably remembering our little conversation.

I smiled as well and responded, “Yes, I’m ready to have some fun!”

“Well, I’d love to show you a good time. Just let me know whenever you’re free on campus. I don’t mind taking you around,” Louis said it innocently, but I could tell Damon was not happy at all.

Damon immediately gave him the Bourbon, sat down right next to me and placed his arm around my shoulder.

“Perhaps I should re-introduce myself. I’m Damon Salvatore, Elena Gilbert’s boyfriend,” Damon said sternly, looking straight at Louis.

I knew that Damon was a little jealous and I didn’t blame him. I’d feel the same way if it was a hot blonde girl making passes at him. I just squeezed his hand.

“Right, well anyway, Louis, why don’t you share some of neat stuff there is to do on campus. What you told Caroline and me sounded pretty amazing,” Matt attempted to break the awkwardness between Damon, Louis, and I. It seemed to have worked because Louis began talking to us about the hot spots on and off campus. He seemed to have brushed off Damon’s forward attitude.

“I’ll be right back. I just need to make a phone call really quickly,” Damon got up and went into the kitchen. He had told me earlier that he needed to call Stefan about some dangerous vampires that may have stopped in Mystic Falls. I wasn’t too worried, but I now realized why Damon was wary about Louis. I really hoped we didn’t make a big mistake. I think Damon was a little worried, which is probably why he went to call Stefan right now.

I was getting a little scared now. I had completely forgotten about this threat. Damon probably didn’t bring it up just before they came because there was no point since they were just a few minutes away.

I guess I just had to cross my fingers. I don’t think Caroline or Matt were aware that there were a few dangerous vampires that had potentially stopped in Mystic Falls. Shit. Damon was right about them not being reliable judges. In this case, they had no idea what they might be dealing with.

“Elena? Hello, Elena?” I blinked when Caroline waved her hands in front of my face.

“I’m here, I’m here. Hey! Where did Louis go?!” I asked, panicking.

“He said he had to use the washroom or something. Why do you look so worried?”

I quickly texted both Matt and Caroline about the dangerous vampires so that Louis wouldn’t hear anything.

They both shot me worried looks, and I just told them to keep cool with my eyes.

Just then I heard Damon yell my name in what sounded like excruciating pain.

“Damon!” I quickly ran into the kitchen, only to find an empty needle and a few wooden bullets like on the floor with a note.

“Oh my God!” Caroline was shocked.

“He’s gone. What does the note say?” Matt tried to sound calm.

“Oh my God…Damon! He must have vervained him after shooting him with a bunch of bullets. Damon’s blood is smeared all over the counter! We have to go find him! Matt, we need to go after them!” I shouted, just about to run out the door to save Damon.

“Elena! Relax, for a minute. We need a plan. We don’t know how dangerous these guys are, and we don’t know how many of them there are. But I’m guessing Louis wasn’t the only one,” Matt pulled me in for a hug.

“Who knows where they took him,” I cried, “We can’t just sit here! They’re probably hurting him…and I was the one reassuring him that this would be okay. Oh, Damon. I’m sorry, Damon.” I wept into Matt’s shirt sleeves.

“Elena! Caroline!” Bonnie and Stefan burst through the door with panicked expressions on both of their faces.

“Elena, it’s okay,” Bonnie hugged me and wiped the tears from my eyes.

“We’ll find him, Elena. I promise,” Stefan said reassuringly while hugging me, “No one messes with my brother.”
