You and Mark had both agreed- you didn't like Valentines Day. It was so commercialised, even a bit superficial, you both just preferred doing nice things for one another on a day to day basis, not just saving it all up to one day. So when you awoke on the 14th February, it was a surprise to see a red heart-shaped note resting against your alarm clock.
"Huh?" you said to yourself, as you rolled over, expecting to see Mark next to you, but he wasn't there.
"Mark?" you said again, climbing out of bed, and walking out of your room and to the edge of the stairs, rubbing your eyes sleepily, listening for any noise.
You couldn't hear anything so you went back into the room to read the note that had been left for you.
'Dear Y/N,' it said,
'Happy Valentines Day! Today you're going to be taken on a treasure hunt! Your first clue is where we eat breakfast. Good Luck!'
You groaned to yourself. A treasure hunt? You thought that you had already told Mark not to do anything for you. You wandered downstairs to see another red heart propped up on the table resting against a glass of orange juice, next to a plate of cooked breakfast, including bacon, a fried egg, and toast.
"Ok, this is kinda cute" you admitted to yourself as you sat down, taking a bite of bacon and reaching for the next note.
'Hope you enjoy your breakfast! Your next clue is where there is sand and slides and children frolic!'
"Children frolic?" you laughed to yourself and you finished breakfast, and rushed upstairs to put a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and a bit of make-up on before dashing out of the door, clutching the note in your hand.
As you wandered down the street, you read the note to yourself again.
"Ok, so where there is sand, slides and children frolicking?" you said to yourself as you wandered around, not having any clue where you were going.
As you were walking, you suddenly glanced to your left and noticed a park, in the middle of which was a giant sandpit, complete with a children's play area.
"Of course!" you said to yourself as you began to run over.
When you reached the play area, you noticed another heart placed to the right of a giant slide, poking out of the sand.
"Gotcha!" you exclaimed to no one in particular as you grabbed it out of the sand and proceeded to read it.
'Y/N, well done for getting this far. Your third and final clue is where birds swim. Hope you're enjoying the hunt so far!'
You grinned to yourself as you read the note. You admittedly hated the idea of Valentines Day, but you were really enjoying this hunt. If this is what Valentines Day was, maybe it wasn't so bad after all. You already had an idea of where this might lead, there was a massive lake at the edge of the park. It was beautiful at sunset and it was the place Mark had taken you on your first date. You had eaten a picnic and thrown bread to ducks. It was one of your best days ever.
You rushed towards the lake, clutching the note, not caring if you looked a bit daft. As you reached the lake, you realised that this clue might be a bit difficult to solve. Mark hadn't specified at what point around the perimeter of the lake you were supposed to go, and walking around the whole thing would take ages. You sighed and decided to go right first, towards the spot where you and Mark shared a picnic.
As you approached the spot, you saw a red and white picnic blanket, complete with a wicker basket full of food, including sandwiches and cakes and bags for crisps (chips). But, the best thing there by far, was Mark, sitting on the rug.
"Mark!" you yelled as you ran over to him, as he quickly stood up, as you ran into him, giving him a hug.
"This is amazing!" you said.
"You like it?" Mark asked.
"Yes! I know I said I didn't like Valentines Day, but I love all this! Thank you so much!"
You both proceeded to sit down on the rug.
"Now, I know you've probably just had breakfast," Mark spoke, "but I've got a hamper of food here if you're hungry."

You'd both eaten a little, and were now feeding the ducks some bread that Mark had brought, he knew how much you loved feeding them. You turned to him.
"Mark, thank you. This day has been amazing. I love you so very much and this is amazing, thank you"
"I should be the one thanking you," he spoke as he bent down. You could feel your heart beating quicker. Was this what you thought it would be?
"Y/N," he spoke, holding up a box, "these past three years have been the best of my life. You're just amazing, and I've been so lucky to have you for all this time. You're always there for me, you look after me when I'm sick, and know just how to cheer me up when I'm feeling down. You also deal with me when I'm grumpy, which, I know, can be challenging." He chuckled. "So anyway, I wanted to say how much I love you, and really hope you'll spend the rest of your life with me. Y/N, will you marry me?"
You could feel tears of joy forming in your eyes. This was the best day of your life. You held your hands up to your mouth in shock, the wide smile on your face was starting to hurt. You loved him so much.
"Yes," you spoke, so quietly that you were afraid he didn't hear it. You felt speechless. You cleared your throat and tried again. "Yes, Mark, yes I will marry you!"
Mark jumped up and fist pumped the air.
"Yes!" he yelled, "She said yes!"
You laughed to yourself as Mark did this, then he suddenly remembered the ring, delicately sliding it onto your finger. You could feel the tears streaming down your face as your lips met. This was the best day of your life.
