As the sunlight leaves the sky to its bitter darkness, cold bites my skin where it is not covered by my long dark cloak.  As I walk down the street silence makes my ears strain, trying to find sound, somewhere, anywhere.  All I hear is the soft crunch of my feet on the frosty ground.  As I start to run I see what I am looking for, the board.  As I reach it my fingers glide across the cold metal surface, the writing indented into the rustic steel.

"Today an orchid in the top left widow on the east side." Says a raspy voice.  I turn around to see Ms. Wence staring at me with her warm and inviting eyes, the dimples.

"You were never good at remembering these things were you." She says in a demeaning tone.

"No I remember, I just find them stupid."  I say, trying to hide my lies and embaressment.

"Hush child you know the rules, no-"

"Being out at this hour,"  finishes a voice from the shadows.  As he moves into the light I realize what a mistake I made.  His cloak is covering him so that all I see is his glowing emerald eyes, and firey hands.

"Come with me." He says in a slithering voice to Ms. Wence.

"You, go back to your home or come with me instead."  His voice makes me want to rip my ears off, it makes me feel violated.

Without a second to lose I dash away, then I hear Ms. Wences cry, and I run faster through the frost.  By the time I reach my house, my face and eyes are stinging from the tears and frost.  I climb the stairs in a dash, close and lock the door to my bedroom.  I change out of my now wet clothes, into my lacey nightgown and climb into bed.   I hate the feeling of my burlap bed cover.

I feel tears in my eyes.  I try not to think about what they are doing to Ms. Wence.  I quickly fall into a deep slumber, forgetting about one crucial thing.  The orchid.
