(Stephan)
I left my pack two months ago, searching for my mate. My cousin Lewis accompanied me, refusing to let me go alone in case I done something stupid. Finding my mate was becoming more crucial by the day. I could not ascend to the throne, taking my father’s place, until I found my mate and claimed her. My mother yearned for grandchildren. I’m an only child and my mother wanted a big family but was unable to conceive after having me.
I paced back and forth in the hallway. Hands clasped behind my back. “Calm down Stephan.” My cousin put his large palm on my shoulder, attempting to sooth my nerves. “She’s not here.” I shook my head. I can feel that she’s not here and I was just wasting my time. I ran my hands through my thick dark brown hair, causing it to stand on end in a messy heap. “Don’t get yourself worked up.” His tone of voice was the same, no emotion and firm.
I have never been this worked up about it before but for some reason, something was different. I knew she wasn’t in this clan, but something in the air had me agitated and wrestles. And I didn’t like it. I growled out of frustration and left the hallway. I wasn’t wasting my time here when I could be actually out looking for her. I could hear Lewis explaining to the Clan leader that I was not myself today and I would be back in a moment. As soon as I stepped outside I froze, as if I was stuck in place.
“What’s wrong Stephan?” Lewis was now beside me, looking at me curiously but I ignored it. Taking a deep breath in through my nose I purred in delight as I let it go through my mouth. A gorgeous smell of honeycomb and freshly cut strawberries filled my senses, causing a shiver to run throughout my body. I couldn’t hide the smile that played on my lips, but I had an urgent need to locate the source.
“Stephan?” I ignored Lewis and began to march down the street, dodging people walking in the opposite direction. I was much faster than Lewis who got lost in the crowd. Good. I didn’t want him near her. She was mine.
I turned down a mucky alley with large metal bins at the sides. I could hear rats scurrying around making my nose turn up in disgust. The buildings were high and I could tell I was behind a restaurant of some sort. I climbed over some metal fencing and carried on speed walking.
The only thing I stopped for was the train that hissed passed me, causing me to snarl at the inconvenience. Stupid train wasting my time. I jogged across the tracks, speeding up now. The smell was getting stronger but I still wasn’t close enough.
I stopped to refresh my senses and smell where the scent was strongest. I continued, exiting the train station and down a curving hill. A girl, probably not older than fifth teen, winked at me, with an awed look on her face. Her friends giggled, saying I was so into her and how jealous they were. Oh please. Buy some decent clothes and get a life. I mean they were wearing stupid slutty outfits showing off too much flesh. If I have a daughter she will NOT dress like that.
I continued until the scent was at its strongest, I was standing outside the swimming pool, looking into the all glass windows I saw her.
She sat there at the side of the pool, wearing a yellow top which has ‘LIFE GUARD’ in big bold red letters printed on it. Her baggy black shorts were just getting soaked because she kicked her legs slowly in the pool. Her long curly light brown hair was pushed over her right shoulder as she played with it in her fingers. Oh how I wanted to run my hands through her hair.
I scanned her body, she was smaller than me, I’m 7ft 1 while she looked to be about 6ft 2. Big difference. She has some curves, but isn’t fat. Her eyes were hazel with yellow rims; they twitched as she watched the swimmers intently. I wish she would look at me like that. In time she will. My wolf reassured me, and I found myself agreeing with him.
