"He didn't even know her name, yet he felt sorry for her - for the pain she was going to live through."

It was a crisp afternoon in the fall of 1999. A calming Septemeber day, that would change everything.

A small girl runs around in a flowery meadow, a wide smile across her face as she chased an orange and black butterfly for the seventh time that day. Her hair messy, her clothes dirty, the young girl ran until her little legs had given out.

Her breath shallow, she looked up at the open blue sky, before hearing that familiar voice that sent a chill up her spine.

"Come now, darling! We don't want to be late!" Heavy footsteps started toward her, and she turned to see her mother, an exasperated look dawning her features.

The woman took in her daughter's appearance, glaring at how she muddied up her yellow leggings.

"Look at you! You're filthy!" cried the woman. "We have to get you changed, and now." She grabbed her arm and hoisted her up, fear dancing in the young girl's eyes. "But mother, I dont want to go!"

A loud noise that she was all too keen with knowing rang out, as her head whipped to the side, a familiar sting brought to her cheek. "I am your mother, and I said we are going. Now go upstairs and get dressed, before I have to teach you another lesson."

The girl looked down, fighting back tears as she unconsciously nodded to her mother's order. Without another word, she hurried inside and changed into a bright green gown, that went just past her ankles, and black mary jane's.

Trotting the down the stairs, she wordlessly followed her mother to their car, where she got in the back and stared out the window. The car pulled sway from their long driveway, and they drive off in silence to the mother's friend's house.

When they finally arrived to their destination, the girl looked out at the house. It was homely, soft tinted yellow two story, that looked to be well lived in. But it wasn't messy. The bright blue door opened, revealing a woman who looked to be about no older than 30.

The girl's mother stepped out, and the two walked to meet in the middle, embracing each other to which she had never felt before. This action was unfamiliar to her.

"You must be Suzanne's daughter!" The new voice tore her attention away from their embrace, and the woman known as Suzanne opened her daughter's door, obtaining the picture of a perfect mother.

"Come on, its okay. Hannah won't bite." She reluctantly stepped out of the vehicle, to be embraced by this new woman. She could almost feel her mother tense from where she was standing.

"It's very nice to meet you!" Hannah now spoke. "Suzanne's hasn't mentioned much about you, but I know you're going to love it here."

Pulling away, the woman guided them into the house, where adults sat by in idle conversation, casting the girl small smiles and returning to their tasks. "The kids are all outside, why don't you go and play?"

The girl nodded, and walked outside. Her eyes widened in surprise at all of the children, an assemblage of them by a small, home made playground. Some looked to be about 5, while others widened the age gap to look around 15.

She had felt that same feeling of monachopsis as she felt eyes gazing on the new comer. She didn't want to be there. But taking a deep breath, she meandered her way to some of the kids, being ignored by most.

She wandered aimlessly in the crowd of children, before spotting a boy in a corner, who looked to be having as just as much fun as she was.

Sauntering over, she forced a smile to appear friendly, as the boy seemed a little stand-offish.
