"It's been three months since my father has been arrested. The trial is tomorrow, Saturday. Every single day I am reminded that I'm not a princess, and this isn't a fairytale where the villain is captured and good always wins. It's very possible that this villain won't be captured for very long if he gets out on bail. The police only found a little bit of drugs, enough for 2 years in jail. But they're also trying him for abuse, and if we win, he could be put away for a very long time. "

I close my diary that I've been keeping ever since he has been arrested because the school therapist suggested it.
I look at the clock and it reads 8:25 School starts at 8:30 and it's a 10 minute walk from my house.

"Crap. I'm gonna be late for school again"

I get a text from Leah asking where I was as if I wasn't out in 30 seconds, she was going to leave without me. I run outside and thank her about a thousand times before we actually leave.

"No, seriously Ave, it's fine! If you were late one more time, you would get suspended!" She shoots me a wink as she says this.

" I know but I'm seriously very grateful for everyth-"

She cuts me off "Ave, if you bring it up again, I'm dropping you off right here and right now."

I shutup immediately and we start giggling as soon as I do.

Leah has been the only to make me smile ever since Liam and I broke up. I just felt like I couldn't trust him anymore, and I built a wall and no one could get through except Leah. I'm not sure if I made a mistake or not, breaking up with him, but it's too late to get him back anyway. He's dating Paisley, the new head cheerleader. I always thought he was different, but he's just like every other boy I've met, a back stabber.

As I walk into the school, I rush to my locker to grab my Spanish books, and I see Liam and Paisley about 10 feet away from my locker. Liam looks at me, then pretends I'm not not even there, and continues talking to Paisley.

I roll my eyes as I walked away. I just don't understand how any human being could betray someone's trust like that. But you know what? I don't even care. At least, that's what I keep telling myself.

The bell rings, signalling lunch time. I go to find Leah. I check the bathroom first but she not there. As I'm coming out, I start to text her to ask where she is, when I bump into someone.

"Leah, I was looking for you" I look up when I start to say this. And it's not Leah. "Oh. It's you." I turn around and start to walk away.

Liam grabs my arm "Wait."

I glare at him so hard I thought his head would explode from the pressure.

"You dropped this." He handed me my Pre-Calculus notes. I had a test after lunch.

I take it from him as if it was my purse he just stole.
