The sun loved being out, shining on everyone and bringing light to everything. He spent his time watching the earth prosper and providing it with the light it needed.

The thing was, he was lonely. He never had anyone to talk to or enjoy time with. He could never share any thoughts or ideas.

One day, however, he met the moon.
She was lonely too, but she never said anything or came out to see the land on which the sun shined. The sun loved her lightless beauty and called out to her.
"Moon, why is it that you never shine?" He asked.
To that, she replied "I have no light to give, therefore I wish not to bring darkness on your world of happiness."

The sun thought this silly and offered to give her some of his light. She refused, and so the sun became determined to persuade her into accepting.

They spent months together, possibly years.

Neither was lonely any longer, each had the other. They had fallen in love; both knew and both accepted it.

Every day the sun would greet her, "Moon, would you please accept my light?" And every day the moon would respond, "no, sun. I need not any light while I have you."

One day, however, the moon accepted. This caused such surprise that the sun panicked and told her that the only way for her to get any light of her own was for him to leave.

So they tried it, but the sun couldn't leave nor give her anything without taking his own life and passing his soul, his light, on to the moon. He did this, but it wasn't enough for the moon to light the skies as brightly as the sun had and, frightened and alone, the moon took her own life to be with the sun.

And so the sun came back and now each day and each night one takes their own life for the other to live, both longing for the day that they will be able to see each other again.
