His breaths came out in short rasps as he struggled to outrun the beast following him into the thick, dense forests.

He stumbled, and could feel the hot breath of the animal hot on his heels.

The twigs and sticks came at him from every angle, hoping that the creature would be dazed by this and leave him alone, he ran on.

The furious animal behind him snarled as it pounced on its prey, the boy panted as he urged his legs to run faster, if only he had listened.

The wolf planted its claws into the boys back and pulled him down, the weight too much for the boy.

He pulled out his knife and tried to lunge at the beast, but it was to fast, and the wolf tackled him from the side, the knife knocked out his hands.

He tried to stand again, to run from this unearthly power, but his body was frozen.

Finally when the wolf roared, the boy snapped out of his daze, and his legs started to pick up pace.

Once again the chase was on.

The wolf howled once more before setting off at a fast pace after the boy, after all, it was his fault.

The trees and the vines all seemed to be in the favour of the wolf as the boy tripped and stumbled over them.

He came across a stream which he so very quickly crossed, wading into the deepest middle before coming out the other side.

The wolf followed him, crossing the flowing water in one swift move, landing, then taking off again, the scent of the boy still hot in his nose.

His heart pounding, his legs aching, his lips cracked from the wind and still he ran on.

Everytime he thought he was far from the wolf, it appeared once more, challenging him.

The boy seemed to run forever before he came across a tall oak tree, and there, surrounding it, was the wolfs pack, who all howled simultaneously back at the wolf who he was running from.

The boy stopped in his tracks, and finally realised, this was it.

He backed up to the tree as the pack rounded in on him, all their eyes set on one point of his body, his throat.

And before he had a chance to scream, the beasts all lunged at him.

Maybe he should have listened , maybe he shouldn’t have cried wolf.
