I'm quickly starting to regret this decision. Jessica and I go to the police station to find out more about this guy. We go to the bulletin board and look at all the 'wanted' signs. About ten of them.
"Any guesses?" I ask her.
"Not even one." She replies. "I think we should ask the receptionist for a Top Five Wanted list or something."
She goes over to ask the receptionist, but, I keep thinking about the guy we're looking for.
What's his power? Does he know how to use them properly?
A lot more questions run through my head. Then Jessica comes back.
"Nothing. I guess we're on our own."
"Alright."
We walk out of the police station and start walking back towards the park. Then I accidentally bump into someone.
"Hey! Watch where you're going!"
I turn back to see the guy. Then I catch something about him.
I could've sworn that he has slit-like eyes. Like the ones alligators have.
He's eyeing me with an angry look. He has a black jacket and torn up jeans. He looks about twenty.
"What're you staring at, kid?!"
"Nothing." I respond, calmly.
"You making fun of me?!"
"What? No."
"You challenging me?" He asks.
It's official: this guy's crazy.
"Travis! Look out!" I hear Jessica yell.
Then, out of nowhere, he grabs me by my shirt and flings me into the alleyway near the police station.
I'm surprised the police haven't heard the ruckus outside
The guy stands in front of me. Then, all of a sudden, his arms ignite in flames.
"What the..?!" I'm terrified.
Wait... This is the guy! And his power is fire!
Well, if he's going to show off what he's got, then I'll do the same. I stand up, close my eyes and concentrate. Then, when I open my eyes again, lightning surrounds me. The other guy looks surprised.
"Lightning? No...it can't be."
He quickly shoots a burst of fire at me.
Crap! I don't know what to do!!
I prepare to take the hit, but, then the fire turns into steam. I realize that Jessica had shot some of her water power at the fire. The guy turned to face her.
"You too? You two have elemental powers?"
I gave Jessica a confused look. She did the same.
"What do mean by-"
Before I could finish my sentence, I was interrupted by about ten police officers yelling angrily.
"There! It's that criminal who's burned down six houses in the last week!"
So that's why they're after him. He's an arsonist. Well, that makes sense.
Then, the guy set one of his hands on fire, and slammed his fist on the ground. The ground exploded in flames. I shielded my eyes from the fire. It must have been a while, because when I opened my eyes again, we were back in the park. Jessica was on the same bench, we we're sitting at twenty minutes ago. The fire guy was looking around.
Probably checking if the cops followed us.
Then, he turned back at us. He looked awestruck and angry at the same time.
"How long have you had these powers?" He asks us.
"Ever since I can remember." Jessica replies.
"Same." I say. "What about you?"
"Before I tell you about me, you tell me about yourselves." He says.
Jessica automatically starts talking.
"My name's Jessica. Like you saw, I have water powers. And Travis over there has lightning powers."
I can introduce myself without no help, thanks.
He looks at her then he looks at me.
"Lightning, huh?" He asks.
"Yea..."
"Hmm... Well, it's too early to make assumptions."
"What do you mean by 'assumptions'."
"Nothing."
He stands up and starts walking away.
"Wait!" I shout. "What about you?"
He stops and turns around.
"Sage. And, obviously, I have fire."
"So... Are you thirty or..?" Jessica asks.
"Do I look that old to you?! Eighteen! Remember that!" He says with a scowling look.
"Will we ever see you again?" Jessica asks.
His scowling look disappears and he slightly smiles.
"Maybe, but I doubt it, little girl."
He walks off quietly with his head down.
I look back at Jessica. She's standing there with her mouth wide open, and blushing.
"Hey Lover-Girl, snap out of it!"
"Huh, what?"
"Close your mouth. Don't want a fly getting in it. By the way, I see you blushing." I say, smiling.
She looks like she's about to have a heart attack. She blushes even more.
"Uh! No I'm not!! Shut up and mind your own business!!"
"Whatever Water-Works. Or should I say, Cherry-Face."
"SHUT UP!!!"
I'm having so much fun teasing her. I can't help myself from laughing.
"Well, whatever. I'm going back home. I need to do that homework they left us for biology." I say to Jessica.
"Yeah, you do that." She says.
I turn back and walk home.
Well, crap. Looks like me Jessica aren't the only ones. But, there's got to be more of us. I just know it.
