I watched out my window, molten rock taking down the treeline. All the men in the town running to the river with buckets, trying to help prevent an impossible event. Every minute the orange glow became closer as black ashes started to blow across the dirt road. My sister and I were in our bedroom, staring out of the window in horror. Seconds later our mother burst through the door in an out pour of tears. She grabbed our arms, dragging us out of the house. As we ran, screams of pure terror were heard in the distance. All of a sudden a loud boom shook the ground, causing all of us to stumble onto the dirt. We started to get up and run further when we heard a faint cry. It was a baby. My mother told us to keep running and that she would catch up with us. She ran back, closer to the lava to find where the cry was coming from.
