The Stargazer and the Space Cadet
Part I: Stargazing (Lost – Pricilla Ahn)
She looked outside her window, crying as she gazed at the stars. Her cheek throbbed and she prayed that her father didn’t leave a bruise; she didn’t want anyone to ask any questions. She sighed as she watched the stars twinkle in the sky. One small star caught her eye, it didn’t shine bright but she could still see it there in plain sight. She was that star, never shinning bright enough to catch anyone’s eye. She wondered if she’d ever light up the night sky or even someone’s life
He sighed and ran his hands through his hair. Another fight with his girlfriend and he was now all alone. He sat by the window and stargazed. He frowned and sighed again. Every day it was a constant battle with his girl. Why was she acting this way? He did everything for her, gave her the world on a silver platter, like a dog he was loyal. What else did she want from him? What else could he give? He pushed the thoughts out of his mind; he no longer wanted to think. He just wanted to sit there and look up at the sky. One star caught his eye and though it didn’t shine bright he couldn’t stop gazing at it. He felt his heart warm and he couldn’t help but smile. What – or better yet who – was making him feel this way?
Part II: The First Meeting (Blue Lips – Regina Spektor)
Clad in skinny jeans, a galaxy T, and converse, she left the house with her best friend, Kemiko. She pulled back her dreads and laughed as if she was happy. They pulled into Sonics parking lot and ordered their food. There was a knock on the window and the first thing she saw was big dark eyes that seemed to bore into her soul. She gasped and blushed brightly as she quickly casted her eyes down and bit her lip. When she looked back up, she caught him starring at her with a small smile on his face. Again, she blushed and looked down. Kemiko paid him and she watched in awe as he skated away.
He stumbled into the kitchen and thought, “What is this?” He clutched his hand over his heart and tried to catch his breath. He felt as if God gave him a golden ticket to the gateway to happiness. He shook his head and leaned against the wall, he felt weak, like he was going to faint. He could still perfectly see her beautiful rich chocolate eyes, her shy smile, and her rosy cheeks as she quickly looked away from him. He grinned again and decided to take that golden ticket and run with it. But when he went back outside he found that she was gone. He frowned and clutched at his heart for a second time, the pain that he felt was unbearable. He looked at the sky and faintly saw the moon. As he gazed at its beauty he thought of her eyes and whispered to himself, I have to make her mine…
Part III: Can She Make the Stars Dance? (Stars Dance – Selena Gomez)
For the rest of the week she made excuses to go back to Sonics. She sat at the table with Kemiko, cracking jokes and laughing as they waited for their food. He skated beside them with their food in hand. She smiled and casted her eyes down again. She made herself look up and caught him starring again. He gave her a wink and a smile that made her want to melt. She giggled as he skated away. Her heart was beating loudly and she feared that everyone in the world could heart it. Who was this guy and why did he have a strong effect on her?
That night she stood by her window and stargazed. They never talked but she already knew that he listened to rock, liked anime, and skateboarding. She also noticed that he made people laugh and that he was ticklish, that fact made her chuckle to herself. She liked his laugh, it was cute. She also liked the way he half smiled at her and she liked the way his big dark eyes glared into hers. As she looked out the window she noticed that her star was beginning to shine brighter. What did that mean? Could it be because she felt warmer? Could it be because she was coming up from the ocean, no longer lost? She looked back at the star and saw it flicker as if it was dancing. She put in her headphones and danced along with the stars.
