"Risa!! Get up, it's time to get ready for school!" My mother yells from the room down the hall next to mine. School. People. Ugh, I don't want to go. I want to sleep in all day, watch Netflix and eat food. I pull my phone out to check the time, it's 6:30 I still have time to get a shower in and maybe some breakfast on the way. I here a faint voice, "wake up, Risa, wake up" the voice calls from a far distance "wake up!" It gets louder as if it were coming closer. "Risa Koizumi get up right now!!" My eyes quickly open as I sit up from my desk and pull the paper off my cheek squinting my eyes  to block out the light. I look around and see piercing glares in the eyes of my classmates "Risa, Risa, Risa sleeping in my class again? Will you ever learn? That's another detention, after school." My teacher says writing my name on the board as if it bothered" whatever" I reply with a smug look on my face pulling out my pencil and start to doodle on in my notebook. I look up at the clock, only a few more minutes of the class I dislike so much. "Psst,Risa" I turn around hearing my name being called from behind me the girl that sits two seats behind me passes up a pice of paper, then continues to write in her notebook. "What's this?" I say under my breath. The bell rings and everyone rushes up out of there seats and to the door pilling up like ants when it starts to rain. I get out of my seat and put the paper in my pocket along with my phone. On my way out I get tripped and shoved by a guy on the football team. "Watch were you're walking will ya?" He says and walks out of the room snickering along with his trail of yes followers. "Here let me help you" a quiet voice from behind me says, I turn to see who it is "uh....th..thanks" I say with a shaky voice. She picks up a paper and glances at it "oh you got invited to that too?" " too?" I say confused " invited to what?" " this party" she says pulling out her identical invitation. "Thinking about going?" She says handing me the stuff she picked up. "Well I'm not really the party kind of person" I say looking down as we stand up. "Oh c'mon it could be fun, have you ever even been to one before?" " well... No not exactly" " then how do you know if you'd enjoy it or not?" "Well ya see" I start to explain but I get cut off as she starts talking again " my point exactly!" She says proud to be right. " well I'm just not interested in these kinds of things, plus no one there even likes me." I say starting to walk to class "Says who?" She says catching up to my speed. "okay I know you haven't been here long, but there's a thing called the cool kids, and the not so cool kids, I'm in the not so cool kids category " I stop at my locker as it pops open easily. She walks to my locker and writes on my invitation. "Here" she hands me the paper, , I look at it before closing my locker. "A phone number?" I look up to where she was standing only to see her halfway down the hall by now. I got to my next class and sit in my seat pulling out my journal so I don't have to see the sharp cutting looks that cut through my skin with hurtful words that only exist in my head. The rest of my day goes on as usual, slow moving and awkward. I saw her at her locker on my way out of the building. I check my phone, text from my mom "Hey  honey, have to work late tonight I left some money with
the office to give to you to get some food, see you when I get home. Xoxo love mom. "As usual, on my own for tonight. " I say under my breath heading towards the office. "Mom working late again?" Mrs. Cola the secretary ask handing me the money my mother left. "Yeah" I say grabbing it and putting it in my pocket. "Need a ride home?" "No thank you Mrs. Cola I could use the walk, my daily work out" I chuckle with a smile on my face "what!?! You're skinny as ever!" Mrs. Cola says laughing afterwards "okay sweetie have a good one" she says looking at her computer screen waking her arm up " you too Mrs. Cola." The heavy school doors close behind me as I start to walk out of the prison they call school. "Well, I have thirty dollars and nothing to do?"  I look up at the sky "it's a nice day for boarding, I think I'll go to the park" I say heading into the near by gas station to get snacks and something to drink. Walking into the gas station the little ring goes off alerting the store manager that someone is there "good afternoon" the clerk says walking out of the break room I grab a two peace teas, some chips and my favorite candy bar. The clerk rings it up and ask "is that going to be all for you today?" " yes." "Your total is going to be 5.65$" the clerk speaks through his teeth not really moving his lips. I pull out my the money from my pocket and hand it to him. He hands me back my change and the items I picked out. "Thank you" I reply to his everyday words " thank you come again." I head out of the store and pull my penny board out of my bag setting it on the ground beneath me  putting one foot on and pushing off with the other. The wind bows the hair not under my hat around behind me.the cool breeze on my face as I glide through the air refreshes my mind and clears the evil thoughts that appear when I center the school. From fuck boys to to the preps, the thoughts trails behind me until they fade away and out of my head. I reach the entry to the park. I board down the long cement trail taking me up and down hills, through the woods and behind houses. My leg gets tired so I get off my board and wonder off trail. I find my usual place to get lost, the abandon rail road track, the one with the walls covered in street art.I think it looks cool. I come here a lot during the week to get my mind off things, listen to music, and so on. I haven't seen anyone else come here so it's kinda just a place for me to be alone. "The party isn't until this weekend." I think to myself pulling out my invitation I turn it over and see her number on the back, "maybe I should call her" I pull out my phone "(616, 712, 70, 14" I hit dial and wait as the phone rings. "Hello?" She answered "uh..." My voice cracks and squeaks a little "hello?" She says again with a stern voice. "Uh...hi" "do I know you?" "Yes." I answer before thinking "well kinda, sorta, we talked earlier today" "oh!!! Risa ?" "Yeah, that's me." I reply "took you long enough" she says jokingly "what do you mean?" "I mean I've been waiting for you to call since school ended 4 hours ago." "Oh, heh" I shy away from the phone. "So have you thought about going?" She ask "well I've thought about it, but haven't decided" "you should go." She says quickly "why do you want me to go so bad? I don't even know you." The words slip out of my mouth unintentionally, I freeze then hang up. "Stupid. Stupid. What's wrong with you" I spring up and start passing back and forth. "The first person since middle school, to make an effort to talk to you, and you question her." I kick a stone onto the tracks. "Then on top of that you hang up. Wait I hung up. Oh no." I start to panic. "I'll just call her back and say it was an accident. Yeah that sounds good." Before I know it my phone starts to buzz and my ring tone goes off. "Shit it's her!!" I say out loud "okay Risa play it cool." "Hello" I say calmly " hey, what happened?" "I don't know, bad connection maybe." .you're right, you don't know me" I stay silent assuming she'll continue. "This is a little embarrassing, but I want you to go, because I want to get to know you, I see you in class in in the halls but I never get a chance to talk to you." She wants to talk to me. Hmm "I'm not sure about party yet. But we can maybe plan something for after school." "Really" that'd be great." "Yeah" "okay does Wednesday work?" "I'm free everyday" I joke "I have to finish my homework but looking forward to it!" "Cool, see ya" I reply. I hang up the phone with a slight smile on my face. On my way home I see my mom at the gas station "looks like she's on her way home." I say quietly to myself. I wave in her direction, "hey sweetie! How was school. Anything new?" I look over at her with a smile. "What's with the smile?" She ask raising a brow. "I have a play date."
