Chapter 6
After an amazing weekend spent with friends school was finally starting again.
My alarm pierced the silence, jumping me awake way too early. Groggily I slid out of bed and changed into my plain school uniform of a skirt and white button down shirt. Once dressed I trundled downstairs to grab myself a quick breakfast before I had to leave.
My phone buzzed with a text from Maggie letting me know she was here so I quickly rushed back downstairs, after having brushed my teeth, grabbed my school bag, and darted down the drive and jumped into Maggie's car.
"You ready?" She asked as she put the car into gear and slowly pulled out. I nodded unenthusiastically, still recovering from my early morning. "Oh come on Jenny! It's our final year, we're top of the school. It's going to be a good one!" Maggie chirped. I couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. I guess she was right it was my last year of sixth form before I could leave home and head to university.
Maggie and I entered our form from last year together, luckily we were in the same one to be met by a couple of our other friends who pulled us into hugs. We ended up taking a group of seats at the back with Maggie and I in the back row and another two in front of us.
I was so busy chatting away and catching up that I didn't notice when the door opened and our new teacher walked in. Neither did the rest of the class either because the noise level didn't drop even slightly.
Suddenly two hands clapped together and along the words "Class settle down," and like that the class was silent. Already bored I didn't even bother to look up and started doodling on the front of my new school planner.
I didn't bother listening to the teacher introducing himself I was just concentrating on the small flowers I was sketching on the blue paper cover of my planner.
Only when the teacher started doing the register did I finally start to pay attention.
And only when the teacher called my name did I look up.
"Jenny Rover," his deep, somehow familiar voice called. Looking up for the first time I froze. This couldn't be happening. Why was he here? Why was he taking the register? My eyes locked with his as my mouth dropped open. He was frozen to the spot his face the picture of confusion.
However, in a blink of an eye that confusion faded and what replaced it made me want to cry. His face became hard, angry even, but the worst thing was the hurt I could see clear in his eyes.
"Jenny Rover," he repeated himself his voice so rough and hurt I felt tears forming in my eyes. He pretended to scan the classroom again but I couldn't speak. Only when Maggie elbowed me in the side did I finally manage to croak out "Here."
I didn't understand what was happening.
The rest of the lesson he didn't even look at me. I couldn't comprehend how he was my teacher. Wasn't he too young? I knew he was older than me, but how much?
He looked so different in his suit. He wore a white shirt tucked into black trousers and a blue tie which matched his eyes swung from his neck. This side of him was completely different, a side I had never seen before. This wasn't the funny, childlike Ben I had come to know. He was smart, professional and damn sexy.
My tears were threatening to spill now as his eyes skipped over me for the countless time. I felt like I couldn't breath, my lungs were closing up on me, like all the air was being sucked out of then. I needed to get out of her. My hand shot into the air, making him stop mid sentence.
"Yes, Jenny is it?" My heart physically hurt as he pretended to forget my name. I know he couldn't act like he knew me but it hurt all the same. I couldn't imagine my life without Ben and he was acting like we were nothing, like he had already forgotten about me. I couldn't take it.
