Chapter 9
Monday soon rolled around meaning I had double geography. After collecting our books Maggie and I made our way to form. Just as we reached the classroom door Maggie paused and grinned at me. "So have you called Adam yet?" She asked as she waggled her eyebrows. I couldn't help but laugh at how silly she looked.
I shook my head in response. It wouldn't be fair on him, I still wasn't over Ben. "Oh come on!" Maggie cried. "You have to call him. Not only was he was gorgeous but he was totally into you," she said as she waved her hands around in the air enthusiastically. Opening my mouth to respond I stopped when I heard his voice.
"Are you two going to stand around chatting all day or actually go inside," Ben practically growled. He was angry. I didn't know how much of our conversation he heard but I was praying it wasn't a lot. Maggie apologised before dragging me to the back row. Once she sat down she sent me an apologetic stare before we sat in silence waiting for the rest of our class to arrive.
The following two weeks passed with Ben completely ignoring me. He wouldn't so much as look in my direction, even when taking the register. Whenever he scanned the room, his eyes would pass over me. He wouldn't ask me questions and I wouldn't ask him. In the corridors he avoided me as if I smelt like a garbage can. I could be walking around butt naked and he wouldn't have noticed. I was happy he wasn't giving me mixed messages anymore, but it still hurt.
This Saturday I had arranged to go skiing with Lexi. She still worked at the slope full time while she tried to find another job and I had missed the centre after having finished my job at the end of the summer. I would have loved to keep working there but with it being the final year of school I knew I needed to focus on my grades.
I smiled as I walked up to the familiar centre where so much had happened. I hadn't seen Lexi since school had started meaning she knew nothing about Ben and I breaking up. Grinning widely I ran an hugged Lexi when I saw he exiting the staff room. When we finally pulled away from each other we both jumped into a conversation as she led me back into the staff room to grab her stuff.
It felt weird to be back here, it reminded me of Ben but they were all good memories so I didn't mind. Soon we were out on the slope messing around on our skis as we chatted about everything. I was surprised nothing about Ben had come up yet, maybe someone else had told her.
However, as soon as that thought entered my mind. Lexi leaned over and chirped, "Your boyfriends just arrived!" I looked down to the bottom of the slope where Ben and Dan, one of the other instructors had just strolled in. I groaned as I tried to hide from Lexi, he hadn't seen me yet.
Lexi's expression turned to confusion before I explained. "We broke up," I muttered as I shifted behind Lexi uncomfortably. Her mouth dropped open as my words sunk in.
"You and Ben?" She asked for clarification to which I just nodded. My eyes never leaving Ben as he chatted easily to Dan, praying he wouldn't look up. "You and Ben who were perfect for each other?" Lexi continued, clearly not grasping the fact that yes me and Ben who were perfect for each other had broken up. I just nodded again as I peered over Lexi's shoulder. I started to panic slightly as I noticed Dan and Ben were now putting on their skis.
"We need to go," I whispered as the two boys started shuffling over to the button lift. In only a minute or so they would be up here. However, Lexi still seemed to be struggling over the fact that Ben and I had broken up. Her mouth kept opening and closing as if she was about to say something but then decided it against it. When she finally seemed to come to her senses it was too late. They were here.
"Lex!" Dan called as he pushed himself along the snow to join us. He stopped when he saw me quickly turning back to Ben awkwardly before continuing towards us. "How are you?" He asked trying to cover the awkwardness. Lexi just started chatting away as normal leaving me to turn and see Ben who was standing to the edge of the circle.
