Prologue

I remember the day like it was yesterday. My parents and I went to a lakeside cabin for the summer, and I was allowed to bring someone. Unfortunately, my best friend, Mollie Garcia, couldn't come with us, so I decided to bring my boyfriend, Dylan Harris.

We had just arrived at the cabin, and my parents were doing us a favor by unloading our stuff into the house. Since Dylan and I had never been here before, we were childish and...explored! The first floor had a living room, a kitchen, an office, and a small bathroom. The second floor had another bathroom and two bedrooms. Finally, the attic contained another bedroom and bathroom, and my parents already called dibs on that floor!

So Dylan and I picked out our bedrooms and started to unload our stuff. After about an hour, my parents began to make dinner, and Dylan wanted to do something fun. Again, we were childish and played Hide-and-Seek. I was the Seeker first.

"1...2...3...4...5..." I said slowly. "6...7...8...9...10..."

I hear giggling in the background as someone's feet scampered away. "15...16...17...18...19...20! Ready or not, here I come!" I called.

I searched throughout the whole house, starting on the first floor. Eventually, I gave up and looked around the second floor.

I silently tip-toed into the bathroom. I heard a faint giggle. I whipped the shower curtain open and saw Dylan.

"Ha! I found you!" I taunted.

"Fine, now it's my turn!" He says, turning around. "1...2...3..."

I quietly dash to my bedroom and hid in the closet, keeping the doors partially opened so I could prepare for him coming.

"Ready or not here I come!" I hear Dylan call.

And then, everything is silent for a little while. I heard him looking around, but he never bothered to check my room!

A few minutes later, I hear someone creeping into my room, waiting outside the closet doors. As he opens the doors, I jump out and scream, "BOO!"

He leaps back, laughing playfully. I don't realize how close he was to the window. Suddenly, he loses his balance and stumbles backwards. I'm shocked as I watch him break the glass on the window and fall out of the house.

"DYLAN!" I screamed, racing downstairs to my parents. "Mom, Dad, Dylan fell out the window!"

My parents dashed after me outside to the place where he fell. I was horrified that he wouldn't make it.

Unfortunately, my worst nightmare came true. When we found Dylan on the ground, bright red blood was dripping out of his head and back. His eyes were closed and he wasn't breathing.

"Dylan..." I whisper softly, shuffling through the tall grass to him.

It was obvious that he was dead.

Sirens wail in the distance.

The tears poured from my eyes.

This is all my fault.

A/N: I decided that I wanted to upload the prologue today, instead of Sunday! Don't be mad at me, you get this chapter a few days early! Anyways, I hope you like it, and more are to come!
