"Hello anybody home?" someone said knocking on the front door. I read the last two sentences of the page I was on and put my book down.
"Coming" I walked over to the door and opened it. It was Ryan. I wasn't the type to get all love sick over a guy, but Ryan was not hard to want to look at. He was that one guy at school that every girl had a crush on and it wasn't hard to understand why. Ryan was gorgeous. He had thick brown hair and eyes that would almost swallow you. They were a green and blue mix with little specks of gold. He usually wore khakis with a sports jacket. Today he had on khakis, a school sweatshirt, and bright blue Nike shoes.
Ryan was not only handsome he was rich too. I'm his neighbor. He comes over a lot to hang out with my twin brother Alex. My family was pretty wealthy too. We lived in a house similar to Ryan's. Our parents and his parents worked at the same business.
"Hey Syd, is Alex here?"
"No, he's at baseball practice and I'd really appreciate it if you didn't call me Syd" I said trying not to get frustrated at him. Normally I wouldn't mind something like this but my Aunt Dolores though we called her Aunt D she would always call me Syd, but when she died it was really hard for me because we were really close. Whenever people called me Syd it would always remind me of her and at times as hard as I would try not to I would even burst into tears. I was pretty much over it now since that was over a year ago but I didn't like Ryan calling me Syd.
"Then Syd" he continued apparently paying no attention to my comment. "Could you please give me your science experiment your Mom said it would be fine if I used it to help me with mine since I'm doing a similar experiment."
I sighed "It's in the attic, I'll go get it." I said shutting the door on him.
I heard a knock on the door. I paused, turned around, and then opened the door. "Do you need something?" I asked
"Aren't you going to invite me in? It would be rude not too. George had a fit when one of the maids didn't invite our guest in."
"Why do you call your Dad George?"
"Well what do you expect me to call him?"
"Oh I don't know. Maybe Dad?"
"You're funny. So are you going to invite me in?"
"Would you like to come in?" I hoped he couldn't hear my annoyance in my voice.
As we passed the kitchen I yelled to my Mom "Ryan's here, I'm going to find my science experiment for him."
My Mom's head popped out of the kitchen. She had just gotten back from work and was still wearing her black business suit. She is actually my step mom. My real mom died giving birth. Dad says that two births at about the same time (since Alex and I are twins) was too much for her and she died. I never did get to meet her but from what dad says, she was an incredible person. A year or two later my Dad started dating Charlotte from his work and now she's my step mother. I don't mind her at all, I think it's easier for me to accept her because I never knew my first mom. "Come in the kitchen and have a quick snack before you go up there." She said
"Mom I'm not sure we really have time."
"Oh don't be silly we have plenty of time and I'm sure our guest is famished."
We walked down to the kitchen were one of the maids had started making us what I call APC but it's also known as Apples, Peanut butter, and chocolate. Normally the maids only did cleaning but everyone once is a while she would make us APC as a treat.
My mother sat down next to us. "So Ryan, how's your Mom and Dad? They haven't been at work lately."
"George surprised my mother with a trip to the Bahamas for their anniversary so they'll be gone for a while."
"Oh how fun. Andrew and I were thinking of doing something like that."
The maid brought over our snack.
"Alex should be back from Baseball soon, Ryan."
"Great" he said with a mouthful of APC.
"So Ryan I hear from Sydney that you have a big report in health, is that right?"
"Yah, I'm really looking forward to doing it too. It sounds like a lot of fun."
I knew Ryan was lying. He was just trying to make my mother happy. He will say certain things that may or may not be true just to get on adults' on his good side.
I could tell what my Mom was going to say next so I gave her the eye hoping she'd get the memo, but of of course she didn't.
"Do you have a partner Ryan?"
"Not yet."
Oh course he didn't have a partner yet, we just the the assignment today and no one had a partner yet. Hannah Clark probably did but she has an inhuman love towards school.
"Well how about you and Sydney pair up. What do you say?"
Called it.
Ryan didn't even have a choice now. If my Mom suggest or offers something you do not say no. Not only to be polite but also because you do not want to be on my mothers bad side. She was like a teacher. Most of the time they are nice, funny, and make learning a little less boring. But if you get on a teacher bad side it's like a living nightmare.
"Why not" Ryan said
"Wonderful" my Mother proclaimed with a smile
We finished up our snack and went up stairs into my younger sisters toy room, where the pull down later for the attic was. I pulled on the small rope and we climbed up the ladder. The attic was dark and I struggled to find the light switch. I looked at the small room with so many boxes all piled up on top of each other. None of them were labeled. I'd have to go through them to find which one had my last years science experiment.
I started looking through them and noticed Ryan take a seat on a dusty chair that creaked when he sat on it. It used to be in my room when I was little but now have decided it's an old lady chair.
"Want to help me?"
"Not really besides I'm a guest right now."
I stared at him for a moment wanting to scream at him but I started to look through the boxes.
After a little while Ryan got bored and started looking through the boxes with me. He chuckled so I asked him what was so funny.
"Look."
He showed me a picture of my when I was two. I was undressed besides a cape from my wonder women costume I used to have and my underwear which was on the top of my head.
I snatched the picture from his hands embarrassed. I could feel my face burning up. I hung my head down so he wouldn't notice.
Then he pulled out the cape from the costume and said "Hey, its Miss underpants's cape. I feel so honored to be holding this."
I didn't say anything. I just kept my face down until it returned to its regular color.
I picked up another box and opened it. It had some of my birth mothers things from when she was younger that she kept as keepsakes. I was just about to close it when something caught my eye. It was an old diary. I picked it up carefully. It was being kept open by an object in between the pages. I opened it up. I found a beautiful gold locket. It was shaped as a door, connected to the chain was a small glass container filled with something I couldn't quite figure out but looked like glitter. I opened the tiny little door expecting to see a picture but it had words inside. In bold fancy lettering were the words "The Forbidden Room"
I stared at it for a moment confused. I closed it and placed it around my neck. I thought it might be cool to have as a keepsake and it's not doing any good up here in the attic collecting dust. Besides it was gorgeous. I continued to look through my mothers things. She had a folded up jean jacket. I felt something in the pocket. I reached my hand in and pulled out a post it note. It said "Your hot" from Pete, I guessed it was the name of a high school admirer. I giggled a little and put the note back in the pocket and set the jacket down next to the diary. I found a leaf but the weird thing was that the leaf wasn't wilted yet. I looked it over a couple times and set it down next to the other things. I pulled out a smaller box, inside was a bunch of photos. Most were of my mom and some other guy I didn't know. They looked about nineteen. The scenery was beautiful. I found a group of pictures taken at a small cliff overlooking the lake. I put the pictures down and took out one more item that greatly surprised me. It was a dagger. It was carefully tucked away in a small sheath. I pulled it out and examined the blade. It had a black handle with a design on it that twisted and turned. The blade was almost a foot long. I my fingers glided across the blade. I put it back before I broke something. I was going to place it on the diary, but stopped and instead picked up the dairy and carefully flipped through the pages. I looked at what she had written. It said:

October 28 1984

Today was going just fine until I found that stupid locket. Now I don't know where I am or what I'm doing. I've met some really nice people here but that still doesn't help me get home.
perhaps I should explain. I was walking home from school and I took the shortcut through the woods. I spotted something shiny in the dirt so I poked around a little and came across a locket. It was kind of weird though. I've never had a locket myself. But I've always imagined them either shaped like a heart or an oval, but this locket was shaped like a door, connected to its chain was a small container of what I think is glitter. It was so pretty and I doubted anyone would ever find it in these woods if they had lost it so I decided to take it home. I placed it around my neck and walked home. I know it was wrong and probably immature but I took it.
I went home and did my homework as fast as I could so I could call Ally over to hangout , and so I could show her my locket. We were neighbors so we hung out all the time. Our special hang out spot is in the attic. So as soon as she got here we crawled up the ladder and into the attic. We started talking but Ally pointed out a door I had never seen before. It was really weird because I'm in the attic practically every day so I think I would have noticed it before. I walked-

Ryan interrupted me "Whats in that room?" He said Pointing to a door on the opposite side of the room. I could hardly see through all the boxes
I looked up to see what Ryan was talking about. And sure enough there was a old wooden door with a metal frame that looked like it just walked out of a old movie. I just stared at it. I had lived in this house for sixteen years and I knew that door wasn't there before. I got up, the diary and a dagger still in my hand and walked over to the door slowly. As I got closer I noticed a small sign on the door it read "The Forbidden Room" the same words in the locket. I wanted to open it and see what was in the other side but I was hesitant to. It could be dangerous. But my curiosity got the best of me, I reached my hand out to turn the door knob. I could hear Ryan's breathing behind me. My hand touched the cold metal knob. I twisted the handle and opened the door and was suddenly engulfed in a bright flash of white light.
