Warriors: The Bird's Vision

Prologue

Starlight glittered and lit up the small and rather empty apprentices' den. A sleeping calico apprentice lay there curled next to her brother. They were both stirred when their starlight was blackened. The female apprentice rose her head as two new apprentices crawled in.
Her brother lifted his head as well and politely made room for the two new apprentices to get to the new nests next to him.
"I don't want to sleep next to a bunch of orphans," The older sister, who the apprentice recognized was Lakepaw, sorted. The brother flattened his ears as steady waves of irritation pulsed from him.
"Lakepaw, stop, you're embarrassing us," The younger and smaller sister, Brookpaw, meowed quietly in a high pitched voice. Lakepaw snorted and shoved her little sister into the den first, causing Brookpaw to step on the young female apprentice.
"I'm sorry!" She cried as she jumped away and settled into the nest next to the brother.
"Lakepaw, Brookpaw, be nice," A scolding voice called from outside the den. Both the sisters flattened their ears and lowered their heads.
"Yes, mother," Lakepaw groaned, and settled into the nest next to her sister.
"Hey, Emberpaw, don't mind her, she grew up kinda ignorant," Brookpaw whispered to the brother. Emberpaw nodded in forgiveness. Brookpaw turned to the calico. "And I'm sorry-"
"No need, it's all cool with me," The apprentice insisted with a smile. "Welcome to the apprentices den, both of you."
Brookpaw nodded in appreciation and curled up in her nest. Emberpaw signed and curled close to his sister. "You okay?"
The young apprentice sighed as well as she inched closer to her brother. "We look Clan born. We don't look foreign at all and we were raised by very well respected cats. Why do ignorant kits and elders insist on picking on us?"
"Don't let them get to you, alright? We both know we're just as much warriors as those two," Emberpaw said as he flicked his tail over his sister's spine sympathetically. "Try to get some sleep, Birdpaw."
Birdpaw sunk into her nest. "Will do, Emberpaw."
