i woke up to the sound of an alarm clock. my body refused to get up. i hadn't slept well that night, thinking about any and everything. i was scared to go with this former cop who i had no clue about and the thought that he could be a masked murderer really made me not want to go with him, even if it did mean better for my safety.
i forced my self out of my warm warn out bed where i knew that could be the last time in a while that i would have been in that bed. maybe even forever. maybe they wouldn't find my mom, and i'd be forced to stay and live and illinois with my aunt who i barley knew. it was all too much to think about.
i hoped in the shower and got ready as fast as i could. i packed even more in my bags than before. books, more than a weeks worth of clothing, my phone, earbuds, shoes, anything i would need over a period of time. i even packed food.
i sat done at mine and my mom's two person kitchen table, with some cereal. if wasn't the same. if was quite and there was no mom. no protection, no help.  it made me sick to my stomach, and it was enough for me to stop eating.
i slipped shoes and a flannel on, and waited by the door with my bags.

a truck pulled up about 20 minutes after me waiting. i slowly grabbed my stuff and started to head out the door. a man hoped out of his truck and smiled lightly. "hello, are you katie?" i looked down, "yeah." he took out his hand. "call me deputy." he smiled. i just nodded. "hey, it's okay. i'm not here to hurt you. i want to help you." there was a moment of silence until the deputy spoke again. "forget about those plane tickets, i went to the airport earlier and they said that the flight is canceled, and we don't have time to sit around and wait, so i guess me and you are taking the long way to illinois." he opened the passenger seat to let me in. i made sure i had my phone and earbuds at least.
when i got in the car, a smell of cleanses and cherries reached my nose. it was a delightful smell, actually.
the deputy put my stuff in the trunk, and then soon started the car. "you have everything?" he asked. i nodded once again. "good. let's roll." he said, and pulled out of the driveway.

it wasn't long until we were on the highway. it had been silent, and i knew he was waiting for me to talk. "so uh, who are you visiting down there in illinois?" deputy asked. i cleared my throat. "my aunt jillian." i said. "is she married?" he asked again. "nope. boyfriend but not married." he shook his head. "kids?" he added. "god, no. she would never have kids of her own." i said. my aunt jillian had always said she never wanted kids, because she had me and then courtney's two boys that she could spoil. plus, she had never been tied down to one man long enough to ever have kids.
the car fell silent once more and this time i avoided any conversation by putting my earbuds in my ear. i laid my head against the window, and watched the outside move fast. i realized also that that was how fast life had moved. as if there were no stopping.
i found my eyes get heavy and i knew it wouldn't be long before i fell asleep.

so guys i know that was a short & somewhat rushed chapter but i swear it will get better (: please like & comment (:
