I wasn't sure what I expected once I heard that voice. All I knew was that it was something bad was coming soon...
No face popped onto the screen after X got the video chat request. I blinked as a speaker thing (you know that line that spikes when it hears sound? One of those) appeared on the screen. The voice coming from the other side was clearly youthful, but it had this chilling feeling to it, which sent a shiver running up and down my spine and neck. "The Kuranin... Are you looking into them or not?"
X glared at the screen. "So what if we are?" he asked harshly.
"What about I tell you a little something then?" the person asked. I bet that whoever it was, female, as far as I could tell, was smirking madly at saying this. I gulped. Who was this and what did they want?
"What is it then?" F questioned sternly.
"The Kuranin have a far larger plan than you think," the person continued to say. "If you haven't caught them in a week, they're going to explode the city. Dust. Ruin. Nothingness."
"What?!" we all yelled in shock. Milan grabbed F's arm and began to weep to her.
"You can catch them or watch everything crumble," the person, the girl, told us. "I am permitted to give you one hint as to who they are. This hint... GL-3... You can do it...!" The sound went static for a few seconds as the girl tried to cry out one last phrase, though the line went dead before she could do that.
Nobody dared to speak. Nobody opened their mouths at all. X merely closed his laptop, eyes wide with shock. "I... I didn't think this would happen..." he whispered numbly, placing his computer back into its bag.
"This is insane!" I roared in anger. "Who do those guys think that they are, acting like they can blow up the city for no reason?!"
"We need to look into that case the girl on the other side mentioned," Vesgate suggested. "That's our best bet as far as catching those guys goes."
"Let's just get this over with," Celosia scowled. "Unlike all of you, I actually have something to do other than be dragged around for no reason."
"We'll run down to the local precinct and get files on that case," M declared. "To the limo."
//February 21, 2030. Local Precinct, 2:39 PM//
The precinct was something new to me. I had never had purpose to come here, so I didn't really know what to expect when I arrived.
People were bustling around madly with files. I'm sure that multiple people shot us weird glances. I guess the eight of us were a pretty odd gang to see around here...
"What are you looking for?"
We were approached by a white haired man with red eyes. I stared at him quizzically. Strange appearance...
"Chief Detective Rinko," M began, walking up to the man. Former comrades, maybe? "Could you show us to a case file, please?"
'Chief Detective Rinko' nodded. "Follow me," he instructed. I exchanged confused glances with Milan and Celosia, the former of which who shrugged, before following after the detective.
He took us to an evidence room where the walls were lined with files. I looked around in shock. I had never seen this much paper before... It was insane...
Chief Detective Rinko reached up and grabbed a file off of the second shelf from the top. "Okay... Here it is," he told us. He handed the file over to M.
M nodded at him curtly and began flicking through the pages. "Okay. Here we are," he declared. "It says that the defendant is one Pierre Giuseppe..."
"He was convicted, right?" N asked him.
M nodded again. "Yeah. He was found guilty for the murder of... No way...!"
"Who?" Celosia questioned.
"Antonio Lane..." he whispered. "The grandfather of one of the victims, Timothy Lane..."
"What else does it say?" Milan piped up curiously.
"The detective was... Arthur Lawton..." M continued.
Everybody turned to Vesgate with wide eyes. He, however looked just as confused as the rest of us. "I don't understand..." he muttered.
"The defense team was Karl Tsumi and Allison August," M read.
"That was my Daddy's name before he died!" Milan gasped.
"And Allison August... Was June's birth mom... But she was murdered ages ago..." I murmured.
"The prosecution was Tori and Carlos Self," M told us, his eyes widening ever so slightly.
N looked slightly uncomfortable out of the corner of my eye. He was messing with his shirt sleeve and looking away nervously. I frowned. I knew a thing or two about suspicious behavior, and that most certainly was it.
"And finally, the judge was Carla Quell," M finished.
"Mom..." Celosia whispered.
X frowned. "It appears that the victims really were related, even if that was a distant relation," he announced. "Though... Who would have the motive to kill all of them?"
"One more thing," Chief Detective Rinko cut in.
"What is it?" M interrogated.
"I don't know all of the details, but I heard that there was a prison breakout quite recently," Chief Detective Rinko announced.
"That's kind of... Strange..." N frowned. "Do you know who escaped?"
Chief Detective Rinko shook his head. "No. Nobody knows yet. There's somebody covering for the escapee for some reason," he declared.
"In that case, we should get some people on that," F announced. "Lawton, Clever, Milan, and Quell will go and investigate the breakout. M, N, X, and I are going back to HQ to talk to some... Friends."
"Friends?" I echoed.
"That's not an answer you need to hear, before you ask," F told me, as if reading my mind. That's not freaky at all.
"At five, let's meet back here," Vesgate suggested. "We can share the results of our investigations then."
I nodded. "Sounds like a plan to me."
M noddeed as well. "Alright. See you guys in two hours," he told us before turning on his heel and leading us out of the room.
The sinking feeling I had been sensing in my stomach since the start of the case had only gotten worse reading that file, and I got the suspicion I wouldn't feel normal again for a long time.
