A sprout is planted
A mutual crush develops between two people
Both are very small
Both hold promise to grow
And to be beautiful.
Young flowers soak up sun light
And drink in water
Two people smile when they see each other
And spend their nights trading in sleep for another hour
To keep learning more about the other
The sprouts begin to develop their first petals
Their stalks gaining height
Hope is placed into their growth
Two people begin to miss each other consistently
More time is spent together
They place their hope into one another
As more time passes under the sun the flowers truly blossom
They're constantly undergoing a chemical change in the form of photosynthesis
Two people begin spending as much time as they can together
Being with the other creates a chemical reaction for them as well
In the form of falling in love
Photosynthesis generates beautiful petals people admire
And a noticeable height in vibrant green stalks
Falling in love generates an infectious happiness
That doesn't have any specific reason
And a noticeable glow in her smile and
A glimmer in his eyes
Eventually the flowers fill up an entire garden
Eventually two people have made the leap into love
Flowers are in full bloom
And two people in love share their first kiss
There's a stretch of time where the amount of sunlight and water is just right
There's that amount of time where the new relationship feels as perfect as a flourishing garden looks
But with time comes change
And there's a dry spell in the midst of the hottest time of the year
The couple find themselves in their first fight
She cries while he locks himself away in his room
A few days pass and when the sky doesn't show any signs of rain
The plants are nearly drowned in water
To make up for all of the dryness
The two make up after dousing the other in apologies
And each other's tears
The flowers perk up again
The couple is seen holding hands again
All is right again
But more time passes, the weather takes on a coolness
Flowers that flourished in the shining sun have lost their vibrancy
They wilt slightly, but it isn't enough to cause worry
Besides, they just need some more water
The couple hit another rough patch,
Though they're determined to work through it
Nothing more dates can't fix anyways
The first weed pops up, months after the flowers were first planted,
It's quickly plucked away with annoyance
Doubt tries to creep its way into the now months old relationship
It's dismissed with a shake of the head and a mental scolding for being ridiculous
Again a weed makes its appearance
Again it's ripped away but this time its captured concern
Concern that is quickly cloaked in denial
Again doubt creeps in
Again it's shaken away but this time it's made them second guess
A second guess that's masked with denial
More time has been tossed away
Eventually the once flourishing garden is over run with weeds
The caretaker became too buried in denial to even see her garden was dying
The relationship is brimming with doubt, doubt that isn't discussed though
There's still some flowers with pretty petals
There's still some kisses that feel perfect like the first time
There's still a small glint of hope.
More time passes avoiding the issues
The weeds stand taller than the rest of the dying flowers now
Dull petals and brown leaves litter the ground
The weeds stand true and green though
Funny how they end up flourishing
The doubt is flooding the once perfect relationship now
Its background noise on dates
But the moment the two are apart it's screaming
The cracks in their hearts are only one more doubt away from splitting apart
The final stalk snaps
The last petal hits the ground
The weeds have won
The last words they'll say to each other are spoken
Their hearts break in harmony
The doubts have won.
Weeds destroyed a beautiful garden that was vibrant and nurtured for months
Doubts destroyed a seemingly perfect relationship that was happy and love filled for months
Because a caretaker was in denial about her garden
Because two people were too scared to face imperfection
Because doubt and denial work together to destroy anything more beautiful than their ugliness
But mostly because life simply isn't a perfect garden and no love is perfection
