Ch 1
Cody’s POV
I looked out of the window and saw lights flashing on a car up ahead.
“Sucks to be them.” Jake said behind me, he took out his phone and began texting.
“Yeah, it does. It’s raining like crazy out there.” I spoke, still watching as we began to pass by them.
Annie’s POV
I got out of the car, absolutely PISSED I was the one they were making push the car.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” I yelled, my hands frozen and slippery.
“Shut up and push!” I heard Alicia yell. But where were we going to go? The camp site was miles away and I was the only one trying to move the damn car. Not to mention, I was the youngest AND smallest out of all of them. I had decided I’d go camping with my so called “friends” just to get out of the house for a few days. There was Alicia, 19, Julia, 18, and Crystal, 18. And then there was me. Annie, irritated and 16.
“Take the brake off!” I yelled and began to push even harder but slid down into the muddy earth.
Cody’s POV
We passed by the car but I noticed there was only one person pushing, a girl, I hoped she wasn’t all alone. It was dark and stormy and we were going to make it to the camp site with time to spare.
“Justin! Can we go back?” I yelled to him at the wheel.
“And go where?”
“There was a girl pushing her car all by herself, she looked like she needed some help.”
“We’re almost to the camp site so if you want to go you can run back, but I’m tired.” He continued driving.
“I’ll drive. Just pull over.”
Justin hesitantly pulled over to the side of the empty road. I got behind the wheel and turned it all around. The van shook furiously.
“What the fuck?” Jessica said, waking up.
“Sorry, babe.” I said. I felt her slowly walk up behind me and gently put her hand on the back of my neck. “You’re not mad at me anymore?” I said.
“Nope.”
“Good. Go back to bed.” She kissed my cheek and went back to where she had been.
In case you wanted to know, yes, Jessica and I were dating. But she was so complicated.
All of the time.
As we got back to the car, I parked behind them and saw the girl turn around.
Annie’s POV
A van pulled up behind me and I got a little nervous. I started to make my way toward one of the doors, I wasn’t going to get snatched up alone.
A man got off of the bus and walked right up to the back of the car and began to push. I walked over and began to help him, the rain doing neither of us justice.
“Alicia, steer!” I yelled.
“I am!”
“Toward the road!”
Slowly but surely we began making our way onto the road again. After a while, I got tired but the man still pushed all by himself. He was wearing jeans and a bro-tank.
“Aren’t you freezing?” I said over the sound of the shower.
“I’m fine.” He said, still pushing.
By the time the car was completely on the road, I was soaked and so was he.
“Thank you so much!” I said.
“No problem!” The lights from his van flashed on and I could clearly see his face now.
My heart began to beat faster but I stayed quiet.
“Where are you guys headed?” He asked.
“1000 Trails. It’s a camp site a few miles away.”
“No way, us too.” He thumbed toward the van and smirked.
“Sweet. I’ll see you there then,” I smiled, completely forgetting everything that had just happened.
“Hope so.” He smiled back and began toward the van.
“Me too.” I said, and then stuttered. “If we can make it there without getting stuck again.” I giggled.
“Just follow me! We’ll stop again if we need to!” He called, getting back onto the van.
“Thanks again.” I ran to the drivers seat. “Get out, I’m driving.” I smiled to Alicia.
Cody’s POV
“Who was that?” Jake came up behind me.
“I don’t know, I didn’t get her name. But she’s going to 1000 trails too.” I smiled.
“Why are you smiling like that?”
“I’m not. Let’s go.” I laughed and started the van up. I got back onto the road and drove around the car so they could follow us.
I thought about what just happened and smiled to myself again.
Even covered in mud she still looked gorgeous, whoever she was.
