I could not believe my eyes,
He was right in front of me
It still felt like a dream.
The sunlight that gleamed off of him,
making him look so very surreal.
Pictures will never give him justice.
In no way was he decrepit;
He is truly a beautiful sight to behold.
His sheer beauty,
Especially with the sun
Showcasing him making him all the more perfect
With shadows dancing across his chiseled face.
The pedestal he was sitting on
Looking like gigantic tomes.
What look to be tomes though,
Are actually fasces,
A bundle of rods bound by a leather binds,
Which tells you of his power and authority.
His entrapping words
Printed to his left and right.
Just in his words alone
You can tell he was very ardent
About the words, he spoke
And the cause of these words.
But, nothing will prepare
You for his size.
The temple that he resides,
Standing at 99 feet tall and 202 feet wide,
Is as beautiful and as picturesque as him.
His facial expression making you wonder
What it was that he was thinking.
He was sitting at 19ft tall
Staring out into the distance.
He sits up straight and tall
Looking over his reflecting pool
And the Washington monument
Who is this person
you may ask?
Well he is not so much a person
As he is a memory.
The Lincoln Memorial
Is a place to reflect
On one of the many seeds of progress.
We just have to let it grow.
