I woke up to the flight attendants voice over the intercom but I was still sleep mentally so whatever he was saying wasn't paid any attention to.
I can't believe that I'm actually on my way to Korea,to be honest.
I'm actually more excited than scared,it took a lot of buttering up to my mom to actually get permission to come.
I mean I'm just 15 and I'm going to be halfway across the world without any surely responsible adult but that just proves how good of a sweet talker I am.
The main reason my mom agreed is because I would be attending this "world famously classified" boarding school.I'd be one of the few foreign exchange students at Riverwood's Highschool of Virtue and Excellence.
I felt the plane descending and I was so ready to finally be on land.I took two planes to get here and two eight hour flights is enough to make a person go mad.
The plane hit the smooth pavement of earth,"Welcome to South Korea!Hope you enjoyed your flight and remember,Luxury Airlines is here to serve you!"the attendant informed a little to excitedly in my opinion, but I was happy to finally be here.
I didn't really have an idea of where I was going I just knew that the exchange students were going to be picked up from this very airport, but being the awkward potato I was I couldn't just go up and ask someone.
Then again I don't want to miss my ride because I don't have a car and I want to stretch my stash of cash until I get a job here.
Walking around all I saw were, well,Koreans.I never seen anything like it,I'm used to seeing all different types of people, but I was surround by Koreans, and lots of them.So it did stand out to me when I saw a tan girl with curly hair,She looked around my age so I awkwardly followed her, hoping she didn't think I was some serial killer.
She abruptly stopped and just my luck I rammed right into her."I-erm sorry, are you an exchange student too?"I asked nervously. She nodded emotionlessly. She looked familiar, but I decided to leave it alone.
We carried on until we were greeted by a small group of kids who were standing with a man and a woman, probably worked for the school.
"Let's go get some dinner before heading to the school,ya?"he asked in perfectly good English.I knew Korean but I'm still practicing to get better,I wonder if I was the only one who spoke Korean.
The car ride was rather lively, since the two teachers who I found out was Teacher Kwon and Teacher Lia carried on a pleasant conversation with us all.
We all introduced ourselves,in total there was 7 of us;me,Gunther Scott,Amber Lee,Luke Banks,Felix Bronze, Emerald Clearwater,and the girl I walked with:Eli Octavia.
We went out for rice soup since it could fill us up,was cheap, and it was something we could all enjoy.Though personally I wanted tapoci, which was a popular Korean street food.It was described as deadly for its level of hotness.
According to Teacher Lia it was the afternoon but it felt like night time, she said my body would have to get used to the time difference here.We arrived at the school,my phone was on the verge of being dead which made me freak out a bit.
The school might I say could put the Hogwarts castle to shame. And yes, that was a Harry Potter reference, bite me.The school wore uniforms to my dismay, back at my old school we could wear whatever we pleased. The uniforms were rather cute though with the plaid skirt and blazers.Lots of the girls were wearing platform shoes or heels and us group of kids surely stood out of place like a sore thumb. From our ethnicities, clothes, shoes, and attitude. The girls were cooing over everything and Gunther was rambling about how "wicked" everything looked.Yep,this is going to be interesting.
"Get to class."Teacher Kwon said in Korean to a group of students who were eyeballing us and talking amongst themselves. They scurried away but not before making eye contact with me.
Teacher Lia took the girls and Teacher Kwon took the boys to two different rooms so we could change into our uniforms. The skirt slid straight off my waist earning a group of giggles from the other girls. My face was decorated in pink tinge and I pulled my skirt back up,"I think I need a smaller size."
"Of coarse,"she nodded and handed me another skirt.I checked my self in the mirror,my hair looked like a rats nest and no one bothered to tell me.I got a brush out of my bag and brushed it through before taking half of my hair and putting it into a ponytail and letting the rest hang down. There,I now look halfway decent.
Next we got settled into our rooms,it was four people to a suite,it had two separate bed rooms,a kitchenette, and a bathroom.I didn't pay attention to any of the assigned names till I heard mine,"Jacqualine Phan."I looked up,"Huh?"
"You're in room 354."I got my bags and pitifully made made my way to the room.I was little and rather struggling with my bags, but I made it.Another girl was preoccupied in the first suite, but the bed on the left remained undisturbed. It was a loft bed, which I always adored."I'm Octavia, Eli Octavia. You're a Sophomore too right?"
I offered a small smile and nodded,"I'm Jacqualine, but call me Jackie."Teacher Lia came in to let us know that we had a school assembly in a half hour.We spent the next half hour freshing up and getting to know each other."What kind of music do you like?"she asked.
"I like all types of music but personally I like alternative, rock, ooo and kpop."I replied."I thought you were gonna say something like Justin Bieber or Katy Perry."She laughed."Oh wow,I'm offended,I like some of their music, but I'm not really a mainstream type.I like artists like The Fray and Melanie Martinez."She nodded in agreement.
A bell rung letting us know it was time, the other two girls we shared a suite with I found out was Amber Lee and a Korean girl named Haru.
A teacher came and led us to the gym where we all stood and waited to see what all this rukus was about.Soon finding out that it was our welcoming ceremony to the school. They made all of us go on stage, Amber hid behind me,obviously not liking the attention. The principle came and spoke in Korean to the school since most of them seemingly didn't know English. He was handsome and rather young looking for a principle but then again everyone looked really young here.
He basically was telling them to lend out a helping hand to us as new students and make us feel welcome. He even let us introduce ourselves.I was the last person and after the assembly would be curfew so I made my introduction brief,"Annyeonghaseyo,I'm Jacqualine Phan but call me Jackie.I'm from Paradise,California.I like food and books and I look forward to being friends."
I gave them the sweetest smile I can muster and walked off stage. Some of the guys wolf whistled,"You're hot!"someone shouted somewhere in the back.I laughed along with Eli and rolled my eyes.
I remembered my phone being dead when I got back to my room.I was trying to put it in the outlet but it was a circular outlet instead of a square one."Aigoo!I can't even charge my phone!"
Haru came to my rescue though, she had an extra charger she let me have as a welcoming present,"I'll share with you until we can go shopping Friday."I told Eli.We were going to go buy groceries and do a bit of sightseeing.
I called my mom to let her know how I liked it here so far and all.I really missed my mom and hoped she'd come visit soon.
Eli,Haru, and I stayed up watching comedies on Netflix together. Haru's English was satisfactory so whatever she didn't understand I translated for her.She was very kind and didn't treat us like aliens.Amber fell asleep in the middle of eating noodles.I shook my head and ate the rest of her noodles. Can't waste good food can I?
