I woke up with a start. Another bad dream I thought. I got up and checked on my little sister, Elle, and my little brother, Cameron. They were sound asleep in their cots. You see ever since I was 14. Our parents died on our private jet along with the pilots. We were on a mysterious island that no one else but us were on. Today was my eighteenth birthday. I started making breakfast for my siblings. I found a bunch of chickens nearby a couple years back and built a coop out of old trees and vines. I started the fire before going to get some eggs. On my way to the coop I thought of my siblings. Elle was only 12 and I was determined to teach her how to hunt and take care of herself. She was 8 when our parents died and the poor thing was crushed. I didn't know how to comfort her. She would sob for hours but now she does her best to help me. Cameron was 4 when the crash happened. He didn't understand at first. He had hopes our parents went on vacation and we're coming back soon. Now that he was 8 he understood that wasn't the case. I finally got to the coop and picked 6 eggs. I quickly got out of the coop and ran back to camp. When I returned Elle was rubbing her eyes.
"Alisson?" she said groggy.
"yes?" I said.
"what's for breakfast? "
" eggs" I said. " could you wake Cameron and then you two go down to the river and shower please?"
"okay! " she said excitedly. I wondered why she was so excited. It was just a shower. She jumped on him and made him scream startled. Then I understood. She and him had started this game about scaring each other and now Elle was up by one point.
" ha ha! I'm winning cam! "
" that wasn't fair! I was sleeping! Ali, was that fair? Cameron asked me.
"well you never specified the rules of the game. " I pointed out.
" fine. Now I know we're not playing fair. You'll see when I get you Elle."
"oh okay" she said sarcastically. "anyway we have to go shower cam. Aly's making eggs so we got to be back soon" Elle said.
"hurry back, okay? "
" alright" they shouted already racing to the river.
Since they were gone I started to worry. Something I rarely let myself do. I had to figure out a way off this island. We couldn't stay here forever. I searched my mind for an idea I hadn't already thought of. But I came out blank. Again.
Today was Saturday. Which meant no school for the two toddlers as I call them. I teach them what I have learned since I was in school the longest.
I finished cooking the eggs and put them on plates I made from wood. As if on cue they come back to camp dripping wet and laughing and shoving each other.
"okay, okay, sit down and eat you savages" I say jokingly.
They obey. They eat quickly. Another race I thought. I ignored them and thought of the day ahead of me. It was going to be tough. I was going to teach Elle how to hunt today.
More to come!! Vote comment like enjoy and all that please. (:
