Welcome to Quilden – a city that is bordered with 30 feet high cemented walls, nothing and nobody getting in or out. It is a city that is composed of three sections – the Residence Section, the City Proper, and the Regency Compound. It’s a fairly small, yet productive city. But when you’ve lived there for your whole life – going over and over the same daily routine - you tend to get crazy. Like you want to kick down the walls and see what’s on the other side without even caring about Custodian’s guns pointing at you.
People have risked their lives just trying to get across the borders – but once they arrived at a ten feet distance, Custodians are instructed to shoot them down. They get crazy that they’d rather die than remain inside – so for them, killing is just a piece of cake if it guarantees that you’ll get out.
Every year, there is a chain of murderous killings. It’s not illegal – but it is given permission by the Regency. In fact, it something forced yet close to the heart. They call it The Deathline – the ordered killing of highly confidential numbers of chosen citizens. Normal citizens don’t know what happens with this order – but what they do know is that it concerns normal citizens, blood, and numbers.
The winners – the Survivors after the progression of the killings- are sent over the borders. It is something that every person in Quilden has dreamed of – but not Donn. She’s perfectly satisfied of the protection and the life that she has inside the borders – she doesn’t want to see what’s on the other side.
But when she gets the notification from the Regency – stating that she has been a progression stage in the Deathline – there’s no refusing, no buts, and no turning back. Now there is somebody assigned to kill her, and somebody who is prepared to fight her if ever she comes after them. It’s simply a game of kill or be killed.
But the midst of the Deathline, Donn finds out that the Regency is one secretive government. She finds herself standing between in a war - a war where she doesn’t know who she’s against. She gets kidnapped, she mistakenly kills, and she falls in love.
Are you ready for the Deathline?
