There was a knock at the door. I get up and open the door to find an officer in a dark blue uniform. "Can I help you?" I ask.

"I believe so. Are you Harley Marquess?" He questions.

"That's me. Why?" I replied

He opens his notepad and flips a couple of pages and looks up. "May I come inside?"

I hesitate for a minute. "Oh, please come in." I have a worried smile on my face as I show him to the living room.

"You may also want to sit down." He says as he takes a seat himself.

"What's going on?" I question.

"I have word that your parents were in a crash and died on impact. I'm so sorry." I looked at me guilt filling his eyes

I sit there in complete silence. "You can't be serious! You are kidding me right?!"

"I'm afraid not." he frowns.

"Wait. What about my sister, Anna?" I question again with hope.

He shook his head "Sorry, I am officer Michael Jacob. I apologise for not introducing myself sooner." He pauses then looks up with a questioning look. "Do you have any family members around here?"

"Yes, they live two houses over" I replied standing up.

"How about we go over there and let them know the news?" He asked sounding sincere.

"Yes. I don't want to be the one to tell them." I said snuffling and trying to catch my breath.

"Ok, before we go over, why don't we pack your bags so you can stay the night."

"OK." I say standing up. My whole body was numb. I didn't cry though. I never cry. As I walked back to my room, I pass my sister's room. Inside laying on her bed is my cat Taylor. His head snapped up as I walked into the room.

"Hey Tay-tay." I said rubbing his head. I soon stopped as I turned and walked to my room. I grab my suitcase out of the closet and start putting all of my stuff in. I make my way to the bathroom and do the same.

I walk into my parent's room and start packing my mom's jewelery and hair products. Once that is done, I walk to the hall closet and get the cat carrier down off the shelf. Then I find Taylor in the kitchen eating. I put him in the carrier and nod to the officer, signaling I was done.

I look back one more time then head out the door.
