I pulled my keys out of my pocket and unlocked my tiny one bedroom apartment and ran to my couch. Throwing my bags on the floor and sat there thinking about my day. About homework and work, Shit. I'm going to be late! I jumped up and ran around franticly trying to get myself ready to go to work as my cell phone rang.
"When the sun shine we'll shine to-" It chimed as I rummaged threw my purse to find it. Grabbing it with out looking at the caller I.D and answering it.
"Hello?" I tried to sound as cheery as I could while I hopped around on one foot putting the other threw my jeans.
"Hi, Prim?" My boss upset voice rang threw my mind as I mentally choked myself for stopping at Tim's for a coffee on the way home from school. Yesterday and today just have not been good to me.
"Yes?" I answered not wanting to further upset her.
"We will not be needed you to come into work today, we have found a more.. reliable cashier to take your position." My heart stopped. I lost my job. I lost my only source of living by myself.
"Okay." My voice cracked. She hung up and I did the same slowly pulling my jeans up and falling onto the couch letting it soak in fully. I lost my job. My eyes flickered down to my coffee table and to today's news paper. I can't give up though. I flipped threw it to the job page and sorted threw all of the jobs. None.
I Googled the job bank from my phone and found that a dinner was hiring just down the street and my heart fluttered. I did up my résumé within two days and then picked out my best dark blue blouse and black dress pants. I speed walked to the dinner, opening the door to fresh smells of fruit and cake. My nostrils took in all of the possible smells before a tall man confronted me.
"Hello?" He smiled brightly, he was about 45 and had dark tanned skin. I smiled back at him as cheerfully as I could and started my speech.
"Hi, I am looking for a job and-" I could even finish my sentence before he cut me off.
"Oh sorry we already found somebody but the place across the street is hiring." I was shot down before I was even up. Seriously what does the world have against me today? I fallowed the man's eyes to the Freak Box, a popular strip club/bar. Really?
"Oh, I um thanks I guess?" I walked out of the door and across the street and into the bar. Loud music rumbled threw my chest as I walked threw the door, wow they have really light security here. I walked around sweaty, drunk people and to a counter.
"What will it be?" A deep husky voice rumbled from behind me, causing me to jump a little bit. I slowly turned around to face whoever spoke and stopped when lights started to flash inside the building. Loud music starting bringing the place alive as an announcer's voice boomed threw speakers over the music.
"Ladies and Gentlemen the girl you've been wait all night for ...." there was a loud drum roll before he yelled "Ginger!" The crowed cheered as a tall skinny woman walked onto stage and froze holding a slender pole that was attached to the ceiling and the stage. She started moving her hips along with the base and then wrapped her leg around the pole and started to sing. Her voice was entrancing, almost fake as she undid her shirt and threw it off of the stage and onto some poor guys face. I turned around after she got to just underwear and a push up bra not wanting to see the rest.
"So you came the show?" A bartender smiled at me as he poured a tall glass of grasshopper. I smiled back at him and then looked over at a bright red sign that caught my attention.
Now Hiring !
"No, I came to get a job. I can waitress and do anything you need me to do!" I mumbled throwing my sad resume at the guy. He looked threw it and then motioned for me to fallow him. He walked fast threw a dark hallway and up a set of spiral stairs, into an office. A man in his late forty's smiled at him as he pulled out a chair for me to sit, so I did. The bar tender left with no words just a smirk. I looked to the other man as he sat tall in his chair. Golden rings covered most of his fingers as his read threw my pages of employment.
"I am looking for a new dancer. Not a waitress." His cold voice sent shivers down my spine. I looked around the room as thoughts drifted threw my head of dancing up on stage. I took dance lessons since I was 5 and ended them last year when my mother moved away.
"Can I make an appointment to see you dance?" He paused as I nodded and then stood slowly and walked over to me. "You are beautiful, you'll be great up there on stage you just need some makeup and better things to show you off." He smiled and walked out of his office and into a dressing room. about 11 girls stood around half naked putting on makeup and curling their hair. He smiled as they smacked his butt while walking by. Some looked me over before walking by and laughing and other just gave me a smile. I fallowed him into a dark room where he stopped.
"I want you to dance for me here and now. Ginger, our best will show you the moves once." He finished as the girl who was just on stage walked in and flicked on a light switch making me blink a few times.
He pointed up to a screen and Show Me How You Burlesque started to play. The movie Burlesque flashed threw my mind as Ginger she moved her body around seductively. I copied her every move looking towards the man who had a very unreadable look plastered on his face. After 3:05 of dancing she stopped when the man clapped and told her she could leave. He turned to me and smirked.
"You really know how to dance. You got the job, can you start here tomorrow?" He smiled at me as I smirked back at him a warm feeling crept up inside me, I can't do that in front of other people. I'll freeze!
"Okay thank you very much!" I ran out of the building and to my apartment building, the whole time trying to figure out my first dance. I stood in front of my mirror and then turned on the radio. He said my first song would be Fake I.D. I played it as I worked out my moves trying to be sexy as I moved around my living room. This is not working.
