Emily P.O.V.
I'M SO HAPPY! Today is the day that we ( as in the awesome potato hunters) are going to convince Cat to join our group. I even prepared a whole speech about why Cat should join our group. I've been practicing it all day and I really hope I don't mess up. Today is a really important day for then potato hunters, especially to me. I can't afford to screw up. even though it just sounds like I'm trying to convince a friend to join a club it's not. The potato hunters have to think for the world. We have to try and make a decision that will benefit the world. If we screw up, many many innocent lives could be lost just because we made a mistake.
Cat has always been my idol. I've been looking up at her ever since I could remember. She was kind of like a sister to me. She always listened to my problems and help me deal with them, she knows my secrets and I know hers (even the really dark and twisted ones.) When my parents were out she would babysit me and make me so happy. I love her and I trust her with all my heart.
Sadly, ever since the birthday the potatoes attacked, Cat just wasn't the same.
~~~~~Flash back~~~~~
While the potatoes attacked, everyone panicked. Some kids were screaming or crying from agonizing pain and terror while others stood there dumb folded, in shock or in confusion as they watched their life, their friends and family'a lives and the world around them turn down a cruel dark painful path resulting in death and terror.
While the chaos unfolded, Kriti, Allison and I all stood near Cat hugging her and praying that we will live to see the light again. As my two friends and I were experiencing the most traumatizing thing that any three year old or anybody else can imagine, Cat stood there quietly and calmly but with a strong grasp on her position. Whenever a potato neared us, it always made a u-turn and walked away from Cat. That is how Cat saved us all.
There's only so much that three year olds can handle and I guess inanimate objects coming alive and killing your world is just too much so my friends and I passed out. When we woke up Cat had tucked us in bed and left. The only thing she left behind was a note that said," Dear Emily, I'm sorry that you didn't have the best birthday. I'm also sorry that I won't be here when you and your friends wake up. I have to leave for some business. There's food downstairs for all of you. ~Cat"
~~~~~End of flashback~~~~~
She changed. She wasn't the old friend that was so warm anymore. Cat seemed a bit more distant and cold. Maybe even a little more mysterious but whatever caused her to change, I still love her. She rarely visited me and always seemed to be in a rush, resulting in very short periods of communication. Anyways...... What was I going to say? Oh yeah, asking Cat to join. Lately, potato minion numbers have increased. It's starting to be a bit too much for Kriti Allison and I to handle. We needed a fourth member, so we decided to have a meeting. All of us sat in our living room and started to brainstorm. We tossed ideas back and forth but none of them seemed to last very long. The decision is made when we either all agree on an idea or two people agree. Allison suggested that we invite our friend Kayla, but Kriti and I decided no to do so. You see, Kayla is a really nice girl. She's kind, bubbly, enthusiastic and brave. She's a really great illusionist too! Her magic tricks are simply mind blowing. This can be a great advantage for us. Kayla can use her magic to distract the potatoes while the rest of us kill them. The disadvantage is that she doesn't have the best IQ. If a potato minion were to sneak up on her, her brain wouldn't really be able to distinguish the killer as a threat. She would probably see the minion as a play toy or a really over excited fan of hers. She would be dead in seconds and that would be bad. An innocent life would be lost and as soon as she dies, the rest of us might get caught and killed. That would lead to the end of the world. So as you can see, Kayla was ruled out. We continued bickering about the perfect new potato hunter for hours an hours. We bickered for such a long time that I ended up losing track of time . After receiving a massive migraine from all the possible people, I started drowning out Alli and Duck's nonsense argument about cherry pie. I mean how in he flipping world does a potato hunter discussion turn into how to make a cherry pie?! Just three seconds ago we were talking on track-ish about actual potato hunters. We WERE looking at the potato hunter scale, ( a scale that ranks all known potato hunters. Well obviously we are first.) but somehow in the blink of an eye, I get a huge pain in the head and Ali and Kriti somehow managed to swiftly turn a semi-useful conversation into pointless talk about how to bake a cherry pie then into why we need to always keep a sock with us at all time to prevent emergencies. After hearing what my awesomely crazy friends had to say about random inanimate objects, I came up with a brilliant idea.
"Hey guys, I just thought of someone that could be our new member while you two were talking about kibble. Maybe we can invite Cat. You know? The Cat that saved our lives the day the apocalypse began? Ya well I think that she would be perfect as the new member. She defended us against the potatoes even without moving a limb. It was like she was psychic or something! Plus as an additional bonus she is our friend so we wouldn't have to break the ice when we ask her to join. It would be awesome to have her on our team! I would finally have time to bond with our friendship and you guys can get to know her better! It would be AWESOME!!!!!!"
By the end of my proposition, I was shouting and jumping for joy. As I looked to see the reactions upon my friend faces, to my disappointment, I saw that they weren't as excited as I was. Then again I don't really blame them. They don't really know Cat that well. After a really tense and awkward silence comments started to appear.
"Well from what I remember and from the way she reacts whenever she visits, I get this uncomfortable vibe radiating off of her. She also seems very secretive, I don't trust her. Sorry Emmy but I don't think she'a fit to be in our group." Said Duck while shaking her head. Allison on the other hand seemed to agree with me.
" I think that Cat has potential. Even thought she seem distant, cold, and secretive, she does seem to have magic that is able to repel potatoes without her even twitching. Again she does seem to open up more to Emily since they're really good friends, so if we could only become as good friends to her as Emily is, she would probably open up towards us, his creating a great advantage for us."
"Wow..." Was all that Kriti and I could say. We have never EVER seen Allison talk in such a sophisticated and logical way. Usually, her responses are short and spontaneous and needs to be decoded. To untrained people, Allison would appear to be talking gibberish but to us, she talks like, well... an Alli.
So then it was decided. Cat would be our new member.
That my friend is how Cat was chosen.
Cat arrived to our house with confusion clearly written on her face. I told her that I had a huge question to ask her and brought her to the living room. Alli and Duck were already seated on the sofa waiting for Cat and I. we sat there staring at each other with a really heavy atmosphere. After a few moments, I started my speech. All Alli and Duck could do is wait and hope that I don't screw up and hopefully Cat will accept our offer and become the next hero to walk on the face of Earth. The problem is that under pressure, I get really nervous. I start to fidget, stutter and have brain farts. That is why I'm not the only one to tell Cat. When I start to talk like a broken record and look like a gaping fish, Alli and Duck will back me up.
" Hey, um...... Cat, I know that you're really busy and stuff but there's a secret that my friends and I have to tell you. It's umm... Ummm............."
" That Emmy, Duck and I are the famous potato hunters of planet Earth." Said Allison as she saves me from a moment that would've went in my hall of embarrassment.
" We know that you're really good friends with Emily and we need a new member in our group to keep up with the growing numbers of potato minions. We have come to a conclusion that you would be well suited for the job." Added Kriti.
Fweewf! I didn't die!
All eyes were now on Cat. We clung on the edges of our seats like we were waiting for the results of the olympics. It was as if the answer to the universe was in this answer. The tension and anxiety in the air grew and grew until it was almost unbearable. Just as I was about to burst out in anticipation, Cat made her decision.
"All right. I'll join. I'm really looking forward to working with you, Emily and getting to know your friends. I feel flattered that you want me to be in your group even when I barely visit you guys. Thanks."
As the words came out of her mouth, Alli, Duck and I became so happy, we started jumping up and down. We finally had a fourth member to help defeat the Great Potato.
