Chapter 5 – Party On
Payton P.O.V
Friday. I have never been so happy to see it and the coming weekend. The first week wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Class was manageable, even with Dylan around. He stayed true to his word and tried to stay out of my way. I still haven’t spoken to him regarding our paper but I guess it’s because he had other things to do.
Today I didn’t have any classes so I got to sleep in. Oh how I miss sleep. I got up around eleven and had left over pizza from last night for breakfast. Afterwards I took a shower and put on a pair of sweat pants and an oversize t-shirt. I was now trying to catch up some other class reading in the living room.
Abby and Remy had classes earlier but they’re supposed to be here any time now. They mentioned going to the movies later but I wasn’t feeling like going. I felt like I had an itch under my skin to do something but I just didn’t know what. I was restless for the first time in a long time. I have been reading the same page for the past half an hour when the door opened and both Remy and Abby entered.
“What are you doing just sitting there?” Abby asked as she walked in. “Get up and get ready. We have a date with Tom Cruise and Oblivion,”
“Do I have to go?” I asked reluctantly.
“You don’t want to go?” Remy ask crestfallenly. “But – why? You said you were up to it yesterday.”
“I don’t know. I want to do something but I don’t know what.” I said with a frown.
A second later Dylan text from Monday came into my head. “Um Abby, did you hear anything about a Party on Ruby Beach?”
“Yeah, I did,” she said looking and sounding confused. “Why? Where did you hear about that from?”
I felt embarrass to say since Remy was giving me a hard look as if he was trying to mentally pry the information out of my head. I gave in and said. “Um, Dylan mentioned it on Monday.”
I felt myself blush when I said his name. God I am such a girl! It still boggled my mind that he has this effect on me. I mean we hardly talk. He hasn’t said a word to me since Monday. And here I am just mentioning his name and I was blushing like a little school girl!
“Dylan?” Remy and Abby questioned simultaneously.
I flushed harder and dug myself deeper into the sofa.
“When did you talk to him?” Remy enquired
I squirmed in my seat before coming clean. It’s not like I did anything wrong anyways. “Dylan has some classes with me this semester. He is my partner for a paper we have to do for Organizational Behaviour and he is in my Business Law class as well. I almost fell asleep in class and he messaged me to wake up.” I didn’t think I could get any redder but I did. “He mentioned the party at Ruby beach and asked if I was going. I told him I would think about it.” I said the last part quickly with the hope that they didn’t hear it.
Unfortunately, Abby has ears like a hawk. “You said you would think about?” she questioned. “And you are now telling us about it?”
“Well, I didn’t think about it until just a couple minutes ago actually,” I told her. “I want to do something but I don’t know what and I just remembered the text so that why I’m asked you all about it.”
Abby and Remy looked at each other. I saw them communicating without saying a word. Abby had a smirk on her face and Remy look got darker. Abby was the one to break the silence.
“Well, if you don’t want to go to the movies, we could go to Ruby Beach. I mean, if you want to,” she said. “It’s an hour drive from campus and the party supposed to go until morning but we could leave anytime you want.”
