The sun hung low in the sky as the black-haired girl leaned against her balcony wall, sighing as she clutched a present to her chest. It wasn't her present - No, it was something she'd made for Adrien - a little chocolate piece for.. Valentine's Day.
All through school, Alya had begged Marinette to give her present. Her crush, Adrien, only sat a metre away from her in class anyway. If only she could've mustered the courage to tell him...
And with the whole Dark Cupid fiasco, she hadn't been able to see Adrien again due to spending so much time fighting with and against Chat Noir. Chat Noir.... Marinette rubbed her lips softly as she thought of the kiss she had shared with him... His lips were soft and plump and pink and pouty...
Of course, it didn't mean anything. She belonged with Adrien. They were soulmates. She sighed again and hugged the present tighter.
'What'cha up to, princess?' came a casual, cocky voice. Speak of the devil...
'And the devil shall appear...' Marinette muttered. Chat Noir had silently jumped onto Marinette's balcony wall and looked down at her.
'What?' he asked curiously, peering down at his classmate.
'Nothing, nothing... What brings you here, Chat Noir?' asked Marinette, looking up at him. She had never noticed how his hair was such a similiar colour to Adrien's..
'Oh, I was just in the neighbourhood, fighting evil and saving the ladies, like always...' he bragged. 'And I saw you looking pretty upset up here. What's wrong?' he asked, losing his bravado as the hint of concern was present in his voice.
Marinette snorted. 'Boy problems.'
She felt confident around Chat Noir, not afraid to say what was in her head. She heard him chuckle, and looked up.
'Same here, princess. Except with, y'know, a girl... By the way, have you seen Ladybug around here?' he asked, looking forlorn.
'Uh... No,' Marinette lied. She could see Ladybug in her reflection on the window. 'Sorry.'
'Hmm... Anyway, what's the problem?' he asked, scratching his chin and siting cross-legged.
'Just this boy... in my class... who I'm too petrified of to talk to...' Marinette sighed, thinking about her failure as a girl.
'Oh? What's his name?' Chat Noir asked, curious.
'That's a secret, Chat Noir...' Marinette muttered, sliding down the wall and sat on the floor.
Chat Noir jumped down and sat beside her.
'A present?' he asked, spotting the blue wrapped up gift box in Marinette's hand.
'A undelivered, worthless one,' Marinette said and threw the present across the balcony, where it hit the wall with a thud.
'Ha.. I have one too,' smiled Chat Noir, pulling out a red present. 'I never got the chance to give this to Ladybug...'
Chat pressed the present into Marinette's hand. She looked up imploriingly at him.
'Keep it,' he grinned. 'I might as well make someone happy.'
Marinette was shocked. She hadn't known that Chat Noir could be so... thoughtful. She stood up and picked up the present she had chucked aside. When Marinette turned back around, Chat Noir was standing up, looking curiously at her.
She gave Chat Noir the present. 'Since we both seem to victims to unrequited love... take this. Homemade,' she smiled.
Chat Noir seemed shocked for a moment, then grinned widely at her.
'Thanks!' he laughed and his chuckle died away.
'Cya around, princess...' he winked and before Marinette could even turn, he had gone. She smiled down at the present and with one last glance behind her shoulder, went inside.
Chat Noir swung himself onto a rooftop and as the sun dimmed behind him, he opened Marinette's box. Beneath the intricate, sweet smelling chocolate that lied inside was a label. 'To Adrien...'
