"Lets go inside." Jen says pulling away from our hug.
"Ok." I sniffle trying to pull myself together. I walk inside slowly with a limp trying to avoid my dry cut from rubbing against my tight shorts.
We sit at the kitchen table, Jen across from me and asks the question shes been waiting to hear the answer too.
"Uhm Lily what happened back there." Jen asks innocently.
"Where?" I cluelessly asks.
"Back at yogurties. With your phone. My lemonade. Glass everywhere." She stares at me dead in the face as if her profession was interrogating people.
"I just got one of those creepy texts and freaked out." I say as I get up from the table.
"Who was it from?" Jen asks, her eyes following me to the sink.
"This guy, John." I say reaching up into the cabinet to get a glass. I feel my shorts tug against my incision as I reach for the glass. I let out a shriek.
"Lily? Are you ok?" Jen says getting up from the table. My hands shake. I try for the glass again. I grab the closest one- my grandmothers old china mug and hold it under the tap as it fills with water.
"Lily?" She asks again. I hold up the glass, water falling out of it from my incorrect posture.
It reaches my mouth and my leg throbs. I take a small sip and the glass falls shattering all over the floor.
Lily jumps up, shes wearing shoes. Im not. I stand here barefooted waiting for a command from Jen.
"Lily?! Are you ok?!" She says away from the glass.
"Yea just help me!" I yell. I lift up my heel and put it back down feeling the glass underfoot that has just moved there. I lift up my entire foot, preventing any possible glass from entering it.
"Help me!" I yell loosing my balance. I fall over making a sound almost as loud as the glass did when it fell. I feel glass force its way into my leg and my arm. I crawl out moving almost all of the glass in my path with my hands. Jen is waiting on the other side also starting to clear a path for me.
I forget a piece and it goes right through my knee. I let out a scream and try to take it out, only making the pain worst and unbearable to move on.
"Take off your shirt!" Jen yells. I don't listen and keep crawling.
"It'll make the ground easier to crawl on!" I listen, desperate at this point. I hesitate to take it off and throw it infront of me, not taking into consideration I'm not wearing anything underneath.
I crawl on it, soothing my knee from the hard wooden surface.
"Im out of fabric!" I yell.
"Use your shorts!" She yells. My shorts. My cuts. What would she think. I keep going forward for about five seconds before I feel the glass inside my knee again. I hesitate to take them off and throw my shorts infront of me.
For a moment I stare at Jen. Her eyes widen at the sight of my new incision masked with all my old ones which have formed into scars. She drops her purse.
I walk over them and stand up, taking one last jump away from whatever glass is left- like in my dream. Except this isn't life of death. It is. That voice reminds me.
I stand there- feeling myself loosing blood. Not enough to kill me. I feel lightheaded. Jens face gets blurry. I fall to the ground.
"Lily!" Jen yells. Too late.
---------------Jen's POV------------------
I stand there, frozen. Still trying to take in what has just happened. I walk slowly towards her, examining her thighs more. I run to the home phone and dial 9-1-1.
"9-1-1 emergency how may I help you?" A woman asks.
"I need help!" I yell looking back at Lily.
"What happened? Can you tell me your adress?"
"We need an ambulance! My friend needs help!" I yell feeling my eyes get watery.
"Your address ma'am." She demands.
"53 Seaville Road, Apartment 36 third floor."
"We will have an ambulance there in four minutes do you think you can hold off till then?" The woman asks.
"Uhm maybe tell me what I have to do." I demand looking back at Lily. If she doesn't make it this would be all my fault. I tell myself.
"Tell me!" I yell at her.
"One second ma'am. Im going to connect you to the ambulance being rushed to your location, one of the two passengers would be able to help you." It disconnects. I hear the phone ring.
"Hello?" A man asks.
"Hi ok so my friend passed out she has a lot of cuts what do I do?" I ask desperately.
"Is her skin pale?" He asks. I look over at Lily.
"Yes." I push out.
"Describe it. White, cream, etc." He asks.
"A creamy white." I try ad explain her skin colour.
"Does she have a visible pulse? A fast or slow one." He asks. I drop the phone and run over to Lily. Her body looks more pale. I see eerything- her cuts, bruises ad scars. What the... pulse. Check her pulse. I remind myself.
I bend over, check her hands. Not a clear pulse. I try her neck. One. Two. Three. Four. I count as her heart beats. I run back over to the phone after counting for 10 seconds.
"Seven beats in ten seconds." I say, panting.
"She could be going into cardiac arrest. Do you think you could get her to the main floor of your apartment building? It would speed things up oce we get there." He says calmly.
"Ill try." I hang up the phone running to lily. All shes wearing is her underwear. I can't take her to the lobby topless.
I run into her room and get a shirt and a pair of shorts. I run back to Lily and throw them on her, being careful not to hurt her more than she already is.
I pick her up and put her arm over my neck. I walk slowly towards the door tugging Lily's body behind me. I reach the door and start on the hallway.
A man runs up to me.
"Need help?" He asks.
"Yea my friend- is hurt." I say.
"She has an ambulance downstairs." I throw in. I feel him put her other arm around him.
We start walking. Faster than before. We get to the stairs- elevator.
"Elevator!" I yell.
We walk back down the hall to the ending of the hallway to the elevator. I press the button.
We watch as the elevator goes from floor 5-3. The door opens and a woman is inside. We run in and the woman stares at us.
"Our friend is hurt. Press lobby for us please." I ask, out of breathe, gasping for air.
We watch the number go from three to two and beeps. The elevator shakes. The woman looks at me with big bulgy eyes. The elevator makes a screechy noise and the number stops between floor one and two.
We watch as the lights go out and the red emergency lights turn on. We all look at each other in panic.
